Firefox 3.6

I have been so busy over the past year that I have neglected to update my old 3.6 version to the latest version. To my surprise the version to download is 8.0.

 

Add-ons or plugins. Firebug is top priority and is it available for version 8? If not, what version of Firefox supports the latest version of Firebug?

Firefox has had lots of versions over the last year. I think they must be issuing versions instaead of updates to the same version.

Firefox is a smart browser, so they always try to upgrade them and inform it to all user. We should keep upgrade with them.

I'm on 8, but having terrible problems with Firefox for some time now. The only reason I keep it is because I'm so used to Firebug and MeasureIt.

 

It won't open mailto links, slows down and gets stuck making my hard drive spin, only solution is to Force Quit it. I have to remember to close it down every day so that it doesn't hang. It used to be the best browser around, but now I'm not so keen on it.

Virtual: I don't have that problem but I wonder if your OS is different from mind. I'm running 8 on Windows 7.

 

Also, you might review your add-ons for Firefox. You may have something there that just doesn't sit well with other add-ons causing your FX to behave sluggish.

I'm on Mac 10.5.8 and I don't have many addons - Firebug, MeasureIt, Colorzilla and Web Developper Toolbar.

I gave up on Firefox recently as it started randomly hanging on my (Mac OSX Lion). I've since switched to Chrome, and am using Chrome's development tools and similar plugins for color picking/measuring/etc.

I have also had problems with Firefox on my mac and am also using Chrome a lot more.

Hmm...it seems FX 8 and Mac don't get along well. Does this occur for previous version of FX like 7? 6? 5?. If not, then why not downgrade to one of the earlier version.

 

Chrome: I like this browser too but I find that the Firebug plugin has less tools/options than the version for FX.

I hardly ever use Firebug any more, to be honest. Chrome's developer tools do just about the same thing (though I'm sure there are differences.) Just right click on an element, select "Inspect Element" from the menu, and you'll get a window similar to Firebug that shows the source code, css, etc. At least for the basic stuff I used Firebug for (primarily checking/editing CSS) the developer tools work just fine.
