99blogs
MAIN ASPECTS OF WEB DESIGNING ARE: 1. THE CONTENT: the substance, and information on the site should be relevant to the site and should target the area of the public that the website is concerned with. 2. THE USABILITY: the site should be user-friendly, with the interface and navigation simple and reliable. 3. THE APPEARANCE: the graphics and text should include a single style that flows throughout, to show consistency. The style should be professional, appealing and relevant. 4. THE VISIBILITY: the site must also be easy to find via most, if not all, major search engines and advertisement media
newseed
You are presenting old information that you can find here on this forum already. Do you have anything new...fresh...upcoming??
LSW
OK, why did I not think of that, here I thought accessibility would be there too.
Santolaya
Hi, It is the first time I write in a forum so I am not familiar with what is accepted and so on. I have read some of the rules, though. The person I work for asked me to help her change her website. She had one done in Flash (I have never worked with it). So I am looking around if I can do it myself or if I have to tell her to get it from another company. I am currently working on my own for this small company doing newsmails and stuff. I have studied multimedia. I have done some Dreamweaver, photoshop, Director, Premier and so on, but my programming skills are limited. My question is: Would it be realistic to do it on my own. I have been reading in the internet trying to figure out the next step to take, but it seems overwelming. All the things they say you have to consider to position your website to have a good ranking and so on. I would have to design everything on my own, she doesn't have a clue of what she wants/needs. Just that she wants people to find her site to get more clients and I am trying to figure out the best solution. I hope someone can give me an idea of how to get started with this project. Thanks
falkencreative
Santolaya, It's hard to say. I tend to think that trying to develop a site in Flash will be more difficult than using HTML, because there will be more of a learning curve and less people out there who can help you. Search engines have trouble accessing content in flash video, so if you care about search engine ranking, it's probably better to go with HTML as well. If you are just now learning, it's probably better if you didn't have client projects at first, at least until you have the basics down. You can learn as you go, but it will be more difficult. Santolaya
Falkencreative, Thank you for your answer! It's good to know that I wasn't totally wrong. That Flash isn't the best for search engines. When I make a newsmail I do it in dreamweaver and then I make small changes in html (the little I can). Can you recommend any tutorials or books to help me improve my webdesign knowledge. Time and money are an issue. Thanks Edited January 27, 2009 by Santolaya

Thanks Rebeca http://www.killersites.com/web-design/ This was one of the courses I worked through when I was first starting... it will give you the basics that you need to know. http://w3schools.com/ and http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/introduction-to-html.php are useful also. LSW
Santolaya - You should really start your own posts, this is considered hijacking and is frowned upon, also this persons posts may not remain in our forum so yours would be deleted too. Santolaya
Sorry about that! I thought this was open for everybody. I wasn't kidding when I said I didn't know how this worked.
daddyalfie
Santolaya The forum IS open to all, don't misunderstand. What LSW meant to point out is that you jumped into someone else's post rather than starting a new one. No big harm done and welcome to the forum. By all means check out the killersites tutorials in the link above. They take you by the nose and leads you around the mysteries of HTML and CSS. Good luck!
