  1. Those are BOM characters. Since you said you are using Notepad, check out this thread: http://www.killersites.com/forums/topic/265/i-bom-characters/
  2. Your 2nd link isn't working. My suggestion would be to make the navigation links a bit larger. And I'd give them more contrast, too. The color you're using is a little hard for me to see. It seems a little busy. And the header text is also hard for me to read because of the colors used and all the overlapping.
  3. Thanks!! I will take a look at this and everyone's suggestions! Isn't Twitter great?
  4. Okay, I now have an example of what one of my clients wants. http://www.templatemonster.com/ Hover over an image on the right.
  5. I have no idea if you would call what I'm looking for a tooltip or not. And I'm not even sure it's a Javascript thing. I was hoping you guys could help me figure this out. You know how sometimes you can hover over a link and it'll show you an image of the webpage it's linking to? I have 2 clients who are requesting this type of feature. I've searched, but I haven't found anything and it's probably because I don't know what to call it. Help?
  6. Yeah, this is the way I'm leaning, too. I've found a WP theme that I really love and it would work so well for my site, but, as you mentioned, I don't want anyone to question my abilities because I'm using a premade theme. Maybe I can just find a way to incorporate what I love about the theme and go that route...
  7. I'll have to look at the webstats in the control panel. I'm using StatCounter and just noticed it through this. And it seems to happen only on the weekends. So weird!
  8. As a web designer, would you consider using a premade website theme/template for your own site and to showcase your own portfolio?
  9. I've been noticing in my stats that someone is spending 20+ hours on one of my sites and the link they're coming from is this: localhost:2379/website/admin/sitecontent.aspx. What do you think this means? ETA: Not only that, but it shows 90+ page loads for that single visitor every time this happens. :/
  10. I've worked with zenphoto before, but I never did figure out how to integrate it within my site. Of course, that's been more than a year ago now and I bet I might be able to figure something out now that I've learned a lot since. If you still need help, let us know and we can take a look. Maybe post your link so we can figure out what's going on.

Hey Kyle, here's accessify's twitter. Maybe something interesting there?

I said the SAME exact thing not too long ago. But then I started really looking at some of the things being posted on twitter by web designers/developers and found that a lot of it is quite useful. As a freelancer who is not plugged into the corporate world, I have found the information posted there to be extremely informative and interesting. Yes, there are crazy posts that I'd rather not see and it seems like some people are posting just to "hear themselves" (does that make sense?). But I have found some real gems for future web projects by reading others' posts. I found out about this today via sitepoint's twitter that I would not have known about any other way: Sitepoint's Bushfire Relief Sale Personally, between my 3 kids and my freelancing, I don't have time to read a bunch of blogs, so twitter is great for me. And a lot of times, bloggers will mention their blog posts on their twitter page and if I am interested, then I can hop over and read it.

I have it, but I don't use it much. I read everyone's tweets but I don't post often. You have a new follower. (I think I've actually found someone in this forum who shares my political views, too!)
  14. Hi Sarah, I just wanted to share a thread from our old forums that might help you understand positioning a little more. It surely helped me!! Look especially at billyboy's post. Enjoy! Relative and Absolute Positioning

He's around, but not as much as before. Here on the new forums his screen name is Bill.

    Spacing between images

Sheesh. Nevermind. It's happening because I placed each image on its own line. Oops!
  17. I need an extra set of eyes if anyone has a spare moment. Layout Why is there a space between each of those menu items?! I can't find the source. P.S. This is not my design - I'm fixing it for someone. I'm going to try to make this menu a list, but for now, I just need to figure out this spacing issue. :/
  18. Oh, I see. I thought she was just needing the info. How about set up an area for her class on Classmates.com or Reunion.com . Though, I get frustrated with those because you have to pay to see everyone's profile (at least it's that way on classmates.com - not sure about reunion.com). In this case, I would have to agree with lm. Facebook would be a good way to do this. I know you say you're not buying into the hype, and that's what I said just a couple months ago. But then my 70-year-old mother invited me to Facebook, I joined, and I'm so glad I did! If they were to go the Facebook route, they can create a "Group" for their class where everyone can get in and post. And it's totally free to view everyone's profile.
  19. Well, what about a simple email? She can give out her email address (maybe make a temporary one at gmail or something just for this purpose) and ask them to supply the needed info and attach the photos?
  20. You're missing the point, Eric. Since you are sharing the links to your tutorials so others will look, it would just be a courtesy to post a NSFW warning since some people might be at work when viewing. It's not necessarily that you might offend them, but some people could get into trouble for viewing things like that at work.
  21. You can find it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/60
  22. Yeah, the more I look into this, the more I think that's exactly how it'll go. Her current cart is just horrid - it's provided by her host which is the worst I've ever seen. I think fresh start is in order here. Thanks!
  23. I have a new client for whom I am moving her shopping site from one platform to another. I just downloaded a backup of the database, and am wondering how this works in regards to moving from one type of cart to another. Are databases generally compatible from one to another?
  24. I'm sure Ben will have the right answer for you, but I wanted to share something I've been looking at. jCarousel + Thickbox. jCarousel is jquery and looks pretty cool.
  25. How to Make the Worst Website Boy, they hit the nail on the head!! And I've seen a few of these offenses recently (even here at KS!).
