  1. A couple of points: 1. !IE will not work. Only IE can read conditional comments, so having !IE ... doesn't make sense - if you follow what I mean. 2. don't use document.write(), that's really old school 1996 stuff. Use DOM scripting instead. Check out my videos on this: http://www.killerjavascript.com/videos/ So why is it not working? Probably because when IE comes across the !IE declaration ... IE is says to itself: "... what the snap is this? " And then, IE probably does something weird that is screwing up the rest of your code. To be clear, you can have !IE6, !IE7 or IE8 ... but you can't have !IE. Stefan
  2. You move the HTML into .php pages. You need to learn the basics of PHP first. We also have a PHP shopping cart video tutorial as well. If you do decide to go for both, you may want to try Killersites University. I hope that helps. Stefan
  3. Hmm ... this sounds like a precursor to a spam post. :/ ... We will see. Stefan
  4. When I first saw the title of your post, I was wondering what the 'ABC' was about. .. But now I know. Thanks for the feedback. Stefan
  5. Hi, Can you enlarge your browser window? ... The video controls are at the bottom of the video window. Stefan
  6. Thanks for the feedback. We keep trying to simplify. Stefan
  7. Hi, Start with the basics, then move on from there: http://www.killerphp.com/tutorials/beginners-php/ Stefan
  8. Hi, Check out the new home page: http://www.killersites.com/ ... This pretty much the work of Ben with me pestering (art directing!) him. It builds off the base established in the last update with the aim of: 1. simplifying 2. adding some pizazz. Your comments are appreciated. Stefan
  9. Ben is correct. Mx is just an older version of Flash. I kept it in place because people still use it ... it is a lot cheaper to get a copy of Flash MX I guess. Regardless, you will probably learn from both courses. Stefan
  10. Glad you like it so far. Let me know what you like and don't like too. This is version 1 and I'm sure we will be making changes in the near future. Thanks again for your feedback. PS: if you have any request for videos, let me know. I am working with a few people (besides myself) so I hope to have a lot of new content (videos, podcasts and articles) out soon. Stef
  11. After about 1.5 months of work, I am finally able to announce the launch of Killersites University! Why 'university' and not 'tips & tricks' or 'library'? Simply because the goal is to provide a complete road map (curriculum) to marketable skill sets: - Becoming a pro web designer - Becoming a pro web programmer ... So we have our complete collection of video courses and other misc videos. We will also have material that guides the subscriber in terms of the skills they need to achieve the above goals. Beyond that, subscribers can suggest course material and we will do our best to create it. Anyway, I'll stop with the sales pitch here and let you guys check it out. Let me know what you think of the look and style? Thanks, Stefan
  12. As some of you may know, the origins of killersites.com is found in the book Creating Killer Websites by David Siegel. He contacted me recently to let me know he was about to publish a new book on the future of the Web: Pull: The Power of the Semantic Web to Transform Your Business I haven't read the book yet and I know just a little about the semantic Web, but it will probably have a long term impact on web design in general. In an email conversation, David made the point: "... it's interesting because it's on the opposite end of the spectrum from killer web sites, but now the technology exists to have both presentation and semantics." I will be looking into this over the next few months and will get back to you. I wrote a little about it on my blog. Stefan
  13. Hi, All that you describe can be found for free or for a small fee. There are social networking systems out there that provide that functionality out of the box, and there are plug-ins for Wordpress and (I think) Drupal that can do that too. I don't have names for you, but you should be able to find what you want with a few searchs on the almighty Google. stefan
  14. Ok, let me know. Stefan
  15. Are you still waiting the three minutes? I changed the settings and should be no wait for you. Let me know. Stefan
  16. We can work out the exact post count when the mod is created. Thanks for the input. Stefan
  17. I will look into modifying the forum to allow advanced members the ability to have a signature. In principle, I have no issues with them, it just used to piss me off having to delete the spammers all the time. ... Of course this new forum makes it MUCH easier to zap people. Please give me a week or two to get to this as I am working on something major that is taking up much of my time. Stefan
  18. Hi, With .NET you will generally find yourself in Microsoft only houses. That means that when you step out in the market place you will more or less be limited (in terms of market) to medium sized to large business ... if that is cool with you then uh, cool! PHP on the other hand is used much more widely and it is the most popular web programming language out there. I am right now a BIG proponent of PHP for many reasons. Some other articles: - http://www.killerphp.com/articles/will-ruby-kill-php/ - http://www.killerphp.com/articles/why-php-business-perspective/ - http://www.killerphp.com/articles/why-asp-jsp-coldfusion-suck/ ... Yes I am biased but understand that I am really language agnostic and was in fact a J2EE programmer for several years. Stefan
  19. That is one of the main reasons why .. we got a lot of spammers on the old forum from what I recall. Regarding the signature, all one has to do to learn about you, is to click on your profile name. And yes, I do appreciate everyone participating. Stef
  20. Virtual, That is a valid point, these days e-commerce or shopping cart functionality is a common requirement. Stefan
  21. I wrote a quick article on the skills required these days to be a professional web designer. As I point out in the article, this list is really constantly changing because the Web is constantly changing. Anyway, any comments? Stefan
  22. I just wanted to say happy Thanksgiving and safe travels. Stefan
  23. Hi, I've updated this a long time ago making the wait time only 1 minute for new members. There is no wait time for advanced members. Stefan
  24. Yea. Firefox still has memory leak issues on the Mac. On PC though, it seems to work fine. Stefan
