  1. Hi, You may experience problems over the next few days as we are attempting to migrate the server. Sorry about any hiccups. Stefan
  2. True, Windows 7 is far superior to XP and much closer to Mac OSX is many respects. Nonetheless, I still prefer Mac OS overall at this time. ... Except for the mousing. That said, I am actually very interested in the new Google OS (Chrome) because I am largely an advocate of cloud computing. But then again, I doubt the 'cloud' will allow for video editing in a serious way anytime soon. But web design and programming - no problem. ... But, I may be wrong about that. Stefan
  3. Yes, I've tried tweaking the mouse speed on the Mac, I even installed a 3rd party mouse application ... still no luck. S
  4. Hi, I use both Mac and PC, and each has their strengths and weaknesses. Overall though, as of now, Mac is the superior OS in general. Why? Some bullet points: Hardware just works - no stupid drivers to install. Mac OS is more stable. Mac OS is nicer to look at. You can kill process with Mac OS with no fuss. That all said, there is still one thing that bothers me about the Mac: the mousing. Yes, Mac mousing sucks. The Mac mouse action seems somehow, just a little off ... slow, like moving your pointer through mud. Whereas with all its' faults, Windows mouse action is slick .. it just glides about the screen without effort. These days, I use Mac 95% of the time, but when I do go back to my old XP machine, I still feel more at home with PC mousing. Stefan
  5. We figured out why the server kept going down: traffic spikes. I had guessed it was traffic related (not hard to figure out ..) but I just got confirmation. It seems we were even knocking out the NIC card (!) due to the traffic spikes. The new server is being assembled today and we will start the migration process over the next few days. ... So there might be some temporary hiccups along the way. Stefan
  6. Hi, Some of you probably noticed that the server was down ... again. Well, this last overload was the 'last straw' ... and we are now upgrading to a much more powerful server. Too much traffic. Besides moving to much faster hardware, we are also moving to much bigger pipes - the current uplink is 10mbs, we will soon be on 100Mbps port! ... Overall, we should see a nice increase in speed and more consistent up time. We need this because of the hundreds of new videos coming out soon. For instance, we just finished up 9hrs of Photoshop CS5 videos. Stefan
  7. I appreciate the feedback. We keep trying to improve and your opinions are important. PS: good to hear from you Kyle. Stefan
  8. Hi Guys, I hope all is well. I wanted to get some feedback from you guys regarding the new home page .. what do you think of the new rotating top banner? ... Is it too commercial? Beyond that, you can expect a literal flood of new videos coming out over the next few months. I expect 100-200 free video tuts to be posted on the blogs between now and September/October. CIAO, Stefan
  9. CD and download versions are the same in terms of content. Thanks BTW. Stefan
  10. Hi, We have a couple of tutorials that will help you when it comes to learning more about PHP OOP. Our shopping cart tutorial is kinda of a cross between old style procedural PHP and OOP. We went that way to try and bridge the PHP styles. Then our Advanced PHP course goes much deeper into .. well, advanced PHP. There are plenty of free sample videos on that page - so check it out. In the killersites university, we have a bunch of PHP videos and many more to come. Stefan

    Search and DL

In terms of site search; you have several options as to how to approach this: Create something from scratch ... bad idea most of the time. Set your site up in a CMS/blog, so you can use the built-in blog search engine. Use Google's free search tool. Use a free pre-made PHP search script - easy to find on the web. I've done all of the above and I now use Google search because it works well, probably helps a little with SEO. Though I have to say, I find the blog search results get overwhelmed by older content on the site. ... So for the blog, I may go back to the built-in engine. Stefan

  14. I can't say for certain because I don't have the stats. But, given how important the Web continues to be and that just about every business, big and small, NEED a website and finally, 99% of websites need to be updated on a regular basis, I tend to think that the field has a lot of growth potential ... around the world. Stef
  15. I hear that the new droid coming out is supposed to be 450% faster ... the article positioned it as being a marvel in software engineering. ?? Regardless, I think iPhone/iPad and Droid are here to stay. For me though, I tend to lean towards the open platform - Droid. S
  16. Personally I am waiting on the Android tablet and phones. .. From what I've read, Android is a much faster and more open OS. S
  17. Hi, Apple sold 2 million iPads in 60 days! I'm already getting people complaining that our Flash delivered sample videos are not playing for them! Man, I hate tech wars! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has picked up and iPad? If so, what are your impressions of the device? Stefan
  18. Hi, It has been a while, but I think they are in an .flv format. I will look into outputting them in mp3. Please message me to remind me. Stefan
  19. Yea, good luck with that one. After a few years of the FF campaign, IE still has a majority share. It is up to Microsoft to push an IE9 that is up to date and to get people off of IE6, IE7 and IE8. ... Yes, even IE6 is still being used! S
  20. I can see that but you would have to have a flexible layout to accommodate the change in appearance between those browsers that can render CSS3 vs. those that cannot. S
  21. Hi, I just put out a new video on when web designers should start using HTML5 and CSS3 in your standard website. I've been testing new video recording methods - I hope you like it. Stefan
  22. Hi, I just published a pretty extensive article (written by my brother) that introduces iPhone and iPad development. This article is designed for those with just a bit of programming experience. Please comment on the article - good and bad, it will make my brother happy! Stefan
  23. Hi, If you already have a merchant account, all you need now is a gateway - these are companies that provide the software/service that allows you to process credit cards online. Though they provide that bridge between your site and the credit card, you will still need to do some programming between your shopping cart and their system. Besides the gateway provider and merchant account, you will need: A shopping cart that can talk to gateways - not all do. A secure server - that's where buying the SSL certificate comes in. A programmer to stitch this together. On the other hand, you can use Paypal's more advanced services (website payments pro) where you can take credit cards on your site (and you don't have to send them to paypal) and Paypal processes the cards like any other gateway. Paypal's backend systems and tech support is better than other gateways I've used. With all providers on these more advanced credit card processors, you have to expect a monthly cost in addition to transaction fee's. That cost will vary, but $30 is a safe average number. We use both Paypal and our own merchant account. To be honest though, I personally found most people don't mind using Paypal and in fact, there is some extra confidence they get knowing that Paypal is processing the cards.
