Wickham
This page http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35291 has a link near the top to a pdf file Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide! with Google's SEO advice. It has advice for urls and what to avoid, but I can't see a mention of avoiding the word "the".

administrator
Hi, Everyone is correct; there is nothing negative about using the word 'the' in your domain. How long has the problematic website been up?
