  1. Two things: 1. PHP code will not be displayed to the user or search engines because the PHP is processed by the PHP engine and it never gets seen by the outside world. Check out this video on server side vs. client side languages. 2. The robots.txt file is used to tell the search engines what pages or directories to crawl and index (or what pages NOT to crawl ...), so yes, that would work too. But as I suggested above, since the PHP code is never seen by the outside world, there is no need. Stefan
  2. Yep, ranking is not affected by meta tag information. Instead, meta tags information HELPS to provide context for Google and SERP descriptions. Stefan
  3. Glad to hear it. I may even up the ram a little more. Stefan
  4. So, since upping the ram memory allocation on MySQL and on Tomcat (for the old Java based forum,) the old forum is now purring along like never before. Stefan
  5. Hi, We just doubled the ram on the server from 2gig to 4gig. With all this extra ram, I decided to allocate a bunch to MySQL ... specifically: - innodb_buffer_pool_size from: 128M to 250M - query_cache_size from: 32M (only!) to 512M You can do this in the file: /etc/my.cnf You will need to be the server admin to do this of course, so if you are on shared hosting, you would have to ask your providers. ... We here at killersites have our own dedicated servers. Let me know if you notice a speedier forum or not. CIAO, Stefan
  6. I agree. Now that the server is just about fully functional, I can look at this. Thanks for the suggestions. Stefan
  7. Indeed. We looked into it and even got some outside experts in database/forum migration and it was a no go because of the strange design of the Java forum. But, I am starting an active campaign to push people/visitors from the old forum to this forum. ... Even now, a year or so after being offline, we still get 500-600 visits within 30 minutes on the old forum. When it was active, we used to get 1000+. Stefan
  8. Not that I am going to do anything about it, but man, the old web design forum gets a lot more traffic that our new one here. ... What can you do! Stefan
  9. The server migration is almost complete!

    webshapes?!?!?

Oh BTW, The error was generated above because the PDO driver for MySQL was not installed. I had to install it and recompile Apache. Stefan

You can start posting your templates in the downloads section now. Stefan
  12. Dreamweaver has gotten consistently better with each new version. Although sometimes, the new version is just a little better. Other times though, Adobe outdoes itself and comes out with a really nice upgrade. ... Dreamweaver CS4 was a touch slicker than CS3. And CS5 is again, a touch nicer than CS4. That all said, I would suggest getting at least the version of Dreamweaver that supports modern CSS techniques ... I think this is CS2, but I am not sure about that. Stefan
  13. Hi, If you are building this for a website, then you will need a database and say something like PHP. I would need more details to give you more details. Stefan
  14. Hi, I will be releasing a set of HTML5 and CSS3 videos within the next week or so. .. I would have done it sooner, but I've been busy with the server migration. That's all for now. Stefa n
  15. The forum has been updated ... but we have some skinning issues to resolve

  16. Hi, I found the time to fix idea22.com and webshapes.org - they are back online. ... I will soon have to decide what to do with them because: 1. I want to move the template sharing here. 2. idea22.com was a good idea 3-4 years ago but not anymore .. Sometimes in the Web game, you have to learn to pull the plug sometime. Stefan
  17. Forum upgrade around the corner.

Don't care for the Recent Gallery being at the top. Could this not be slammed in the right column?

  18. Hi, Thanks for the kind words regarding my videos. I'm happy I could help. Stefan

    webshapes?!?!?

Yes. We are going to retire the domain soon. I plan on moving the template sharing into this forum once we find the time. That said, I will get it back online within a week. Stefan
  21. Yea, but we miss you!!! ... Though you've been out of the game for a little while, I still get messages from people about your contributions/posts. Stefan
  22. Hi, I spend a lot of time on the web basics in the beginning, but we quickly get into making web pages and a website as we move along. I hope that helps, Stefan
  23. Some of you probably noticed that the forum traffic is down; it because of the server move. For about 48hrs after committing a DNS update/change you will see the traffic being split between the old server and the new as the DNS change propagates across the Web. Also, the old Java forum is down temporarily and that is probably affecting things since that is a large source of the traffic. Thanks Stefan
  24. Hi, I think the server hardware and software updates are in place!! ... I think. For a moment, we thought that the new disk drive might have to be replaced!!! Thankfully, we only had to change the e-sata cable and all seems to be well. What's next? We will be applying an upgrade to the forum software within the next few days that cleans up some bugs and adds more features. Also, we will be releasing a new video series on HTML5 and CSS3. Finally, by the end of next week, you will start to see our new Dreamweaver CS5 video tutorials coming out. Stefan
