LSW
Alaska:A measure designating the Alaskan Malamute as the Alaska State dog was passed out of the House State Affairs Committee this morning (Thursday) after members listened to testimony from students at the Polaris School in Anchorage. One testified that it would be grammatically correct to capitalize the word Malamute in Alaskan Malamute since it is a proper noun because it names a specific dog. That spurred the committee to amend lines 2 and 4 of House Bill 14 to capitalize the word Malamute before it was reported out of committee. The measure sponsored by Anchorage Representative Berta Gardner will now be scheduled for floor action and a vote. Who ever said US kids don't learn anything in school?
