Breadcrumbs

I want to create a function to be able to create breadcrumbs yet since I have never done it I don't know where to start. So I'm going to be speaking "theorically" and you guys help me understand the 'concept'

 

supposing I have a forum with categories, subforums etc etc

The topic is categorized in 'general' in a section (forum) called 'Chit chat'

 

My guess is that I have to check the ID of the topic, find trail back read the SQL and find the section's ID then use the section's ID to find the category's ID and with that create the breadcumbs output?

That would make sense.

 

When building these things, always keep in mind that in the end you are just grabbing text from a page or database and returning it.

 

... A web page after all is just a text document.

Hi David,

 

You can always get the breadcrumb like this.

 

$breadcrumb = $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];

 

That is a simple way to get were you at.
