ulidesign
Hi, I have a website in English, that I want to keep as it is. I need to have the site in German, too, and would like to present a German version right from the start. I know there is a way of finding out the visitors geolocation, and I would like to use that to present the correct language. Basically, I want to keep the English version for every country except for Germany. Because I have an animated Splash page with English words, I can't have an option for the visitors to choose (I would have to display the same splash page in German - not a great solution to this problem). Here's the page: http://ulidesign.net. Is there a script that I could use to switch to the German version if the ipaddress of the visitor is located in Germany? Thanks! ulidesign
falkencreative
There was a similar question about this recently that you might want to look at: http://www.killersites.com/community/index.php?/topic/3962-page-displayed-according-to-geographical-location/page__pid__20658#entry20658

Any kind of user choice would basically mean killing the splash page with the animation. I've had a lot of good responses to that animation, and I would really rather keep it. falkencreative
The second or third post in that thread talks about an option that checks the users IP and redirects based on that. It does have the downside that you have to manually update the IP addresses... but I'm not sure how to get around that (besides probably paying for a service that does that for you.) ulidesign
Yes, there's a link to a company that sells a service. I think I checked it out before, and you have to pay a monthly fee... I was hoping for a script that I can use, or at least something I could figure out myself (and learn in the process). Unfortunately I haven't seen anything like that, though I would think it exists.
