How to make a forum.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to make a forum? I don't know where to start or what to look for. I know a lot of PHP and HTML. I just don't know where to start....Can anyone help?

If you don't want to mess with hosting and such, you might want to look at http://invisionfree.com/. I ran a forum there for a while... The InvisionFree board is well put together and extendable with themes and plugins.

 

If you have hosting and are more hands-on, take a look at PHPBB or PunBB -- both free forum software that you can install on your server. This forum runs PunBB. The Smashing Mag forum uses PHPBB (http://forum.smashingmagazine.com).

 

The home page for each of these forum software should have installation instructions to get you started -- just do a google search.
