I think you either need small corner images for the CSS method (no javascript) or javascript which needs no images. See

I've never seen it done without both images and javascript.

isn't there supposed to be a way to do rounded corners in CSS 3? I know it's not officially out yet I'm just curious

Yes, CSS3 will allow for rounded corners, but Browser support can not be depended upon yet. The CSS3 Spec is still being written, and the Spec is subject to change.

Also, the spec will drop things which are not supported be a minimum number of Browsers.

Eric's Visibilityinherit method is only suitable for extremely small radiuses, larger radiuses would need lots more styles, all varying by 1px, and increasing html tags, so it has limited application.

 

Making a corner image doesn't take long and there are corner creators online.
