php has several functions that can read from a .txt file. read this: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.file.php

you can also read the contents of a photo directory via something like: http://php.net/manual/en/function.scandir.php

maybe a database would work better for you. not sure what your trying to accomplish here,.. in the larger picture but the above should give you some ideas to get you started.

try the following in your external css rather than coding atts in the HTML:

.social-icons * img { width:42px; height:41px;... }

im not positive on this but im thinking that error is because your values do not have expressed units of measure. ie. pt, px, etc

this is quite old. surprised no one replied and likely it is moot.

this is a complex system your client is requesting. it will require a database and some advanced programming. you would likely need to hire another developer to do this for you. there is no one "script plugin" or technique or even technology that will do all of this for you.

both great ideas. build your own site. use it to showcase your skills. then use that as a starting point to get a couple of clients to agree to letting you do their websites for free, provided they allow you to include them in your portfolio and allow for a backlink.

i have the following script on a site im working on.

what it does:

The Subcategory field is invisible by CSS default. once a Category is chosen (onchange event), the Subcategory field is visible and the appropriate <option>'s are written.

the problem:

works fine in FF for me. IE9 the subcategory field is visible but the options are not there. its a blank drop-down.

i looked at all of my privacy and security settings but cant find a fix there. anyone have a clue? am i explaining things well enough?

you are correct in that it is an absolute positioning issue.

i would center the site with an invisible container of fixed width. adjust your slideshow element with margins, as necessary

A better solution (in most cases) is to put your content into a set width wrapper to fit the lowest, most-viewed resolution. Center it with margin: 0 (or whatever you want your top and bottom margins to be) auto - and let the background adjust to whatever size people view. Your actual content and nav will stay the same.

agreed. your columns will want to be fixed width as well in this case
