newseed Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 I came across this site: http://www.anchorbrewing.com/brewery/our_craft and found something I never seen before. Pay close attention as you scroll down and look how the background transition as you scroll. It's almost like a video swipe where a new video comes in at one speed while the previous is goes out at a slower speed. Any idea how this is done? Supposedly it's compatiable for desktop, Ipad and mobile. Quote
newseed Posted July 7, 2012 Author Report Posted July 7, 2012 Here's another one: http://www.ascensionlatorre.com/home Same as the last one but also watch the top header logo area as you scroll down. Quote
falkencreative Posted July 8, 2012 Report Posted July 8, 2012 I think the term you are looking for is "Parallax effect" -- basically, different elements on the page moving at different speeds when the site is scrolled. See http://webdesign.tutsplus.com/tutorials/complete-websites/create-a-parallax-scrolling-website-using-stellar-js/ and http://designwoop.com/2012/06/parallax-scrolling-tutorials-resources/ Quote
newseed Posted July 8, 2012 Author Report Posted July 8, 2012 Thanks Ben. I just never knew what it was called. Seems pretty straight forward but I wonder if this is of no value other than that it looks cool. Can't see using this site wide except maybe on the initial landing page. Quote
falkencreative Posted July 8, 2012 Report Posted July 8, 2012 I think it's just a visual effect to add interest. I wouldn't say it's useless though, since you were interested enough in the effect to try and see how it was done, and it might be unique enough to encourage visitors to recommend the site to a friend. LSW Posted July 9, 2012 Report Posted July 9, 2012 Parallax eh? Here I thought I finally went off the deep end and was seeing things... or my Meds needed a serious update. Quote
jacob081 Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Thanks Ben i really not aware of this. Quote
Guest nikkoncolmel Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 There is an interesting side effect to asking what visitors need. Often, you’ll hear something like, “They need to do something.” One part of web analytics is studying the processes that visitors go through on your website and finding out where they abandon those processes. jimcarry28 Posted October 26, 2012 Report Posted October 26, 2012 Many businesses have found that in order to remain competitive they must implement an ecommerce solution as soon as possible. In fact, so popular is this business model that some companies are adopting this as their only method of doing business. The internet represents the largest target market ever and the potential for new customers is better than ever. Why the internet represents such a good opportunity: Negligible Start-up Costs Start up costs alone for even a small business such as a high street shop can be crippling. There are premises to be leased, inventory to be purchased and stored, staff to be engaged and motivated, and that is before you consider heating and lighting bills. All this puts pressure on cash flow as these items have to be bought and paid for before the first customer walks into your store. There are no premises costs with an ecommerce solution, no staff either if you are clever at automating the processes and more importantly perhaps, no staff motivation issues to worry about. The costs of an ecommerce solution amount to cents in the Dollar, domain names can be obtained for under $10 and ecommerce hosting can be obtained, depending on scale, for under $200 a year. You then need to consider any specialist software for your site But most items such as a shopping cart can be obtained as ready made ecommerce solutions and are very cost effective. Highly Cost Effective Advertising Traditional methods of promotion require you to invest in glossy brochures, flyers, posters and give away items such as stickers, t-shirts, pens etc. You can never be sure which items are being effective in creating leads and again there is a large up investment to be made and also a considerable lead in time until your target market receives your material. Advertising online for your ecommerce solution is both highly trackable and immediate. Many marketers make use of a pay per click system where it is very easy to understand your target market and what items they are most interested in buying. It is possible to have adverts online and in front of your market in as little as fifteen minutes using the Google AdWords system. Flexibility To Provide Deep Discounts To Customers Perhaps the greatest benefit of the low cost of maintaining an ecommerce solution is that you can afford to provide discounts and special offers at incredible prices just simply unachievable by your offline competitors. ingobauer Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 caisses enregistreuses Community-based sites and web applications are rapidly becoming hot property. Young entrepreneurs are making startling amounts of money with simple ideas that connect people and places. Fancy becoming one of them? The dream is a simple one: with careful planning and some spare time, someone just like you can take a smart concept, add some glitz and make a fortune. But where have all the hot ideas gone? Why are we seeing spin-offs, rip-offs and mash-ups instead of great new concepts? Where are all the rubies in the dust? Quote
