Notify when online

Hello All,

 

I once visited a web site and there was a box with a line of text letting people know if the owner was online. I thought this was handy and had an idea to use it. I asked the web master and he said there were scripts about to do this but I'm not too sure if he meant PHP or Java or something else.

If he uses Skype he can put a Skype Status button on his webpage which will show other people visitng his web page whether he is onlines and available or unavailable and a few other states like Do Not Disturb and hidden.

Google "live chat software" and see what you come up with. Some have free trails but most are paid services. I don't know of any free open source software.

http://www.zopim.com/ is a good one. Olark looks to be good but I haven't used it.
