Help! Site upgrade gone awry!

I have tried to replace the 'old site' with the 'new' and a lot of the links aren't working. When clicking on a lot of the links, it says page can't be displayed.

The way I did the transfer was (I think) as advised:-

'New_Work' folder was on the server and all working fine.

I created a folder on the server called 'Old Site' and put all of the existing site files in that, by highlighting, dragging/dropping.

I then highlighted/dragged/dropped all the files from 'New_work' to the Root Folder.

Then I tested the site and found that it wasn't looking like the latest version, so I pressed the Synchronise button in Dreamweaver.

The pages now appear in their latest 'livery' and I can access them in IE by typing their address but can't access a lot of them through the page links.

What have I done wrong?

Hi Thelma, thanks for the response.

I have discovered that most of the links still referred to the 'new_work' folder where I have been doing all the changes.

I had nearly finished correcting all the errors/links, so have finished that job and put the corrected files (most of them!) to the server.

Having checked it direct to the site address in Firefox and IE, it's mostly OK but still a couple of links aren't working. This is puzzling me because they look fine in Dreamweaver and aren't showing as broken in the checker??

Clearly, I should try to rectify these before 'publishing' - which I presume I still need to do?

I have discovered something else (most links now seem OK by the way - be back on that one) :-

1. We now have 3 different enquiry forms on the site. They all open OK but 2 of them don't show the shadow either side of the page, the 3rd does (as do all other pages on the site). Each of these enquiry pages show the shadows in IE.

2. All the navigation links should turn yellow under 'hover' 4 out of 14 don't, yet the links work fine.

Suggested fixes will be most welcome.

cheers

You really should look into using CSS for your layout and ditching the tables - this code you have there is quite a mess.

Without playing around - see if the different styles you have applied to your links have something to do with it. And on a side-note, it's not very good practice to underline a link using a tag.

Aside from the coding - the yellow color scheme and the concept 'financial institution' somehow don't work for me.

Know what you mean about the colour scheme and, as I have said in other threads, I fully intend to re-write the site in CSS (with different colour schemes.

I just needed to get things live for now. I will remove the underlining from those links that have it. The thing that I can't get is why the same code works on some pages and not (fully) on others.

There's nothing wrong with a link being underlined - just with using the underline tag to do so.

Do you have this up somewhere so we can look at it - if something works on one page and not on another - then SOMETHING is different somewhere.
