Static HTML website properties similar to google sitemaps for Wordpress?

I am just getting into all of this. I have been messing with Wordpress a bit. I've also been experimenting with different WYSIWYG editting software. I really like Nvu. I've been curious if there are any disadvantages to static HTML pages when it comes to them getting mapped and indexed for the search engines versus something like Wordpress with Google sitemaps plug-in and all-in-one SEO plug-in. If so, are there are any lines of codes/tags that should be added (and preferably could be added easily through Nvu)? Thanks.

When it comes down to it, search engine ranking is less about specific code that you add to your page, and more about:

-- having unique, quality content

-- having new content, showing to the search engines that the site is active and constantly being added to to encourage repeat visitors

-- having clean code with appropriate header and title tags

-- how many incoming links the site has from other locations on the web
