Map Software? Website laws?

Hello, :D

I'm a business student at the University of Toronto new to web design. Over the coming year I'll be building an information rich site including an interactive map in addition to forums, news, connection to businesses etc.

I'm particularly impressed by the Yahoo Maps interface and would like to have something of similar sophistication. Of course. with different features i.e. 'live traffic' can go in favor of forums etc.

So my first question is, what software is available that can produce an interface like that?

Also, I'm interested in the legal aspects. What are the liabilities in people uploading photos of other individuals or refering to them by name? Can anyone suggest a website where i could learn about these aspects?

Thankyou for your time, any help is much appreciated.

As far as the Yahoo Maps interface... you may try searching for "open source maps" or something similar -- it's possible that you may be able to adapt something else someone has created for your use. Just keep in mind that tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars have probably been poured into creating Yahoo maps, so don't necessarily expect that you can create all that same functionality in a short period of time and for free.
