Susie
I have a new client for whom I am moving her shopping site from one platform to another. I just downloaded a backup of the database, and am wondering how this works in regards to moving from one type of cart to another. Are databases generally compatible from one to another? falkencreative
I think that will depend on what cart(s) you are working with. You may want to contact the developers of the new cart and ask them directly. Overall, however, I have a pretty good guess that the two won't be compatible, and you'll need to re-enter things (or have the client do it for you). Susie
Yeah, the more I look into this, the more I think that's exactly how it'll go. Her current cart is just horrid - it's provided by her host which is the worst I've ever seen. I think fresh start is in order here. Thanks! jlhaslip
You might want to check at the Support Forum for the new E-commerce software to see if there is a Converter script available that might lessen the load. newseed
Susie, what does the exported data look like? I have taken a few of them from online stores (one being GoDaddy store) and imported with very little problems. Basically you just need to cater the definitions to match the new store and maybe remove unwanted columns . As stated by another, you should look into the new ecommerce software to see if they have a method of importing another store's data.
