Rustyhands
hi everyone, i have built a site in wordpress and have just accidentally deleted the htaccess file off the server. can i recreate the same file or do i have to delete the installation and start again? cheers
falkencreative
I would try going to the WP admin > Settings > Permalinks - WP may re-generate the .htaccess file for you.
falkencreative
I believe this is the default .htaccess file: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks # BEGIN WordPress <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] </IfModule> # END WordPress

Rustyhands
doesnt the data in the htaccess file need to be current with how the site is structured? or can i just bang that code in and it should work?
falkencreative
You could always do a fresh install in a new location, and then copy the .htaccess file over. Are you sure the .htaccess file is the only thing you deleted? I wouldn't think that would be enough to cause significant issues.
Rustyhands
yeah, well it was 279 bytes in the server......when i stupidly deleted it. but i do have another access file in the www. file in the DIR. with the install it has doubled up and put it in the public_ and the www. file .
