Tutorial on how to create 3 column template with Dreamweaver MX

I do use Dreamweaver MX, but not the template feature, I write my own code, so I can't help you with that.

However, as we've been trying to tell you, there is more to webdesign than using an editor. Without that and just a very basic knowledge of Dreamweaver, your chances of creating a functional site are about as good as mine, if I wanted to make some good sushi with some rice, a can of tuna, and that green stuff.

In order to build a good site, you really need at least a basic understanding of what's involved. What you have so far, is absolutely not working - have you viewed your site in different browsers and different resolutions? I've already posted a screenshot of how your header and navigation look on my computer. Your location page is also quite jumbled up. Both, Wickham and I have been trying to help you clean things up - he's even coded a 3-column page for you, and I tried to show you how to do a functional navigation, but your site hasn't changed at all.

Have you considered looking into some basic HTML and CSS tutorials just to get a better understanding? Another alternative would be to hire a webdesigner and have the site done.

I second what Andrea says. Dreamweaver is simply a tool, and the tool is only as smart as the operator. Dreamweaver is a good tool in some instances, but it doesn't replace knowledge of HTML/CSS. You create web design with HTML/CSS code, and trying to help you do what you want without touching the code is extremely difficult.

I would highly suggest you look at the Web Design One course, which covers the basics of HTML and CSS (http://killersites.com/web-design/) or http://how-to-build-websites.com.

Hello Admin,

Thanks again for your input.

Question Does the video http://how-to-build-websites.com show which buttons to press to create a 3 column page?

I already purchased 2 of Stephans video course: Basic Dreamweave MX and the Basic Web Design Course KWD Notepad series. In his KWD video #5 video set he gets into the two column positioning: #navigation and #centerDoc

But stops there.

Clearly, after reviewing the videos I will have to go back and reconfigure my pages using primarily the html/css codes. I am slowly getting used to using the html/css language. Like learning any other language it takes time to get acclimated.

If I were to buy another set of video, How to Buid Websites.com, will this include How to Build a 3 Column page? I thought the previous two video courses would have covered it. But fell short.

Please advise. If this How to Build Websites.com covers 3 column webpages, then I will buy it.

But if you would, please confirm. Thanks

Regards

rk

This will no doubt be considered bad practice, however, becuase I am trying to learn another aspects of web development I like to get other things such as my HTML and CSS done quickly. To do this I use a website which is specifically made to produce your HTML and CSS file/template (no images, just basic structure). As your learning HTML and CSS, maybe do this to take a look at the code but dont get into the habit of using cheat sites, otherwise it will take the fun out of the whole learning curve.
