Unable to Apply Styles to a div

Every other div is basically able to be styled.... one I added another id div it won't let me style the width or height. It just spans the length of the box.

 

Unable to do BG color or anything.

 

It passed strict 1.0 strict but I can't seem to get it to work.

 

Any ideas why something like this is happening?

You'll have to post the code or a link to the site you are working with.

 

As a completely random guess, you may need to add "overflow:hidden" to your div, in case the items within that div are floated and the outside div isn't wrapping correctly. Just a completely random guess though -- I'd need to look at the code to be sure.

I had the styles for the div placed between html comments in the style sheet instead of /**/
