I would like to know what is the idea behind canvas tag<canvas>

 

 

Is the idea to cut down on graphics on the web.

also is the idea to use the canvas tag for ads on the web.

I don't know about cutting down on graphics because it has more use for it than that.

I would think gamers and interactive base applications would be a great benefit without the use of Flash. However, I am not up to speed with this tag but it seems that the possibilities are quite bountiful in what you can use it for.

 

Keep in mind that all IE versions do not support it which is about 55-60% of the market. If that market is important then you will either need to give those that can't view the canvas markup an alternative markup or don't use it all.
