CSS Ordered List

I haven't found a solution for this but when you use bulleted list, it's easy to use an image as a background for the list-style and position it to wherever you like but my dilemma is that I want to get the text and the nurmeric value to be closer together.

1. Content here I want to close the gap between 1. and Content her.

Sure I could create an image for each number but then would be senseless to use orderded list.
