scorpion
The thread on Google Fonts excited me to try text-shading on my website which looked brilliant using FF browser. My excitement was short-lived when I opened IE and only plain text was displayed. Using IE Tester, 6, 7 and 8 showed just plain text. I see text-shading is only supported in CSS3 CSS Properties and presumably IE is only CSS2 or CSS2.
falkencreative
This is a pretty good chart showing what CSS is supported in what browsers: http://www.quirksmode.org/css/contents.html Unfortunately a lot of the cool new CSS3 stuff isn't supported in IE yet. That doesn't necessarily mean you can't use it, just that you'll need to make sure it works/looks OK in IE without the effects.
jstern
Just for others to reference, i have this website bookmarked for what browsers support what CSS. Its generally the same thing Falken posted but maybe useful for someone also. I'm going to be bookmarking Falkens as well now.
