artyr
At the moment i'm using Coda as my editor. I wonder why this editor updates my php page in the preview mode when i make changes to the script even when MAMP isn't active. Shouldn't it be that the local server(php) always have to be active to show php pages and the changes you make? Jack.
falkencreative
I know that OSX comes with a built in apache web server, so I imagine that's what it is using to preview files. I find it pretty convinient for previewing small stuff, though I need to turn on MAMP if I want database access.
artyr
So actually we have 2 copies of Apache installed one in OSX and one in MAMP? I always wonderd if MAMP wouldn't override the one in OSX and if that wouldn't be a bad idea but as everybody seems to be doing it i think its alright. So Apache in OSX acces php in MAMP? Jack. falkencreative
So actually we have 2 copies of Apache installed one in OSX and one in MAMP? Yes. You could technically install MySQL/etc on your Mac without MAMP at all... MAMP just makes it a bit easier by bundling everything together. So Apache in OSX acces php in MAMP? I believe they are completely separate.
virtual
Yes, they are completely separate. My Mac has an access problem to the built in Apache server and after a lot of help from Apple support we determined that the best solution was MAMP. So they can run side by side no problem. In fact I prefer MAMP because it is easier to install and everything is all in the same place
