The main content on a page is usually placed below the main navigation (or next to the main navigation if you have a vertical navigation) and above the footer. I don't think there really is a right or wrong in terms of placement... As long as it is readable and easily understandable by your visitor, and preferably presented in a professional, attractive way (no crazy colors or fonts, etc) that's the important part.
