Andrea
Sounds like a content management system would be the way to go.

falkencreative
Use a Wordpress template, it has all the functions you need and there are plenty of choices of templates. Seconded. Wordpress is relatively easy to work with, has a lot of users and good support, and has a wide array of plugins to extend its functionality. You should be able to do your user login using it as well. Andrea
Seconded. ....So in general, when would you recommend CMS vs. Wordpress - or vice versa?
mayku
Thanks all Wait, CMS vs Wordpress? I see that Wordpress is site with free templates?! Edited December 21, 2009 by mayku
falkencreative
Wordpress is a content management system (CMS). I'd say it depends on your needs, what you're comfortable with and the exact site that you're trying to build out. It's best known for blog related sites, but it can also be used just fine as a CMS. I tend to think it's a good beginner's platform because of the active community, a lot of available tutorials to help get someone started, availability of free/low cost templates, and also all the plugins to extend it. It may be overkill for some sites that only need extremely basic content management. http://wordpress.org/
Susie
Seconded. ....So in general' date=' when would you recommend CMS vs. Wordpress - or vice versa?[/quote']I use WordPress as a CMS all the time. My website is powered by WordPress. I also use CMS Made Simple a lot, too. These days, I'm recommending WordPress more to my clients because of its fantastic SEO properties. If I have a client who needs an extensive catalog, but not necessarily a shopping cart, I sometimes find CMS MS easier to use. mayku
lol i haven't got a clue I 'll download it and see what is about..And which is better?
falkencreative
And which is better? Wordpress vs CMS Made Simple? It really isn't a matter of "better". Both are pretty simple to get started with. As an absolute beginner though, I'd start with Wordpress due to all the available tutorials. Stefan also has a video course on theming/working with Wordpress: http://www.killersites.com/wordpress/wordpress-theme.php
falkencreative
Also, you might want to check out http://www.css-tricks.com/video-screencasts/ Chris Coyier from CSS-Tricks has a lot of useful tutorials on getting started with Wordpress. You might want to look at this one specifically: http://css-tricks.com/video-screencasts/25-designing-for-wordpress-part-one/ It explains how to download Wordpress and get it set up. Susie
mayku, I agree with Ben. Also, you might want to take a look at some of the themes (both free and paid) found on these sites to get an idea of what WordPress is capable of... http://woothemes.com http://studiopress.com http://www.themeatlas.com/
mayku
Ok, I must study all that, you gave me a lot of ideas...I also must see templates and make my own design, because it has to be unique
