Best skills for web design

I am a professional from an SEO company. Presently I am concerned with Search Engine optimization. However in near future I may switch over to web development. In my company PHP and .NET are used for this purpose. I am unable to decide which platform to choose as I am not familiar with any of these. I am Sun certified in Java 6. But it is out of market now and has switched its domain to mobile programming. Can you please tell me the pros and cons and future of these languages? Which one has better scope in future?

Hi,

With .NET you will generally find yourself in Microsoft only houses. That means that when you step out in the market place you will more or less be limited (in terms of market) to medium sized to large business ... if that is cool with you then uh, cool!

;)

PHP on the other hand is used much more widely and it is the most popular web programming language out there. I am right now a BIG proponent of PHP for many reasons. Some other articles:

... Yes I am biased but understand that I am really language agnostic and was in fact a J2EE programmer for several years.
