newseed
Well yes if you plan on making a ecommerce from scratch or want to do extensive programming. Otherwise, I would use one of the many ready-made open source shopping cart that are out there, ZenCart, osCommerce, etc. There are also paid versions which could run from just a few dollars into the several hundred dollars. Finally, you can use a online shopping cart which is where you create a account and purchase a plan that varies in monthly/yearly cost but you will have just about everything and updates are always taken care of for you. There might be some limitations to customization or programming but a good online service will give you adequate access to make some modifications. Thanks for your answer.. but, i want to make a shopping cart with my own skill.. what should i learn ? i have bought some books about OOP in PHP.. they explain about making a class, function, some patterns (database pattern, factory pattern, etc), but they don't explain how to use it with HTML, and CSS.. they don't explain how to make a website with oop.. i'm afraid that what i've learnt is useless.. webdesignphilippines
Its easier to learn through practice and experience I bought many php books but i really only learned by application. Imho creating your own ecommerce script is a waste of time specially at your level. There are so many free open source carts out there already. Why try to reinvent the wheel? coderninja
As suggested by a lot of other members you can get started with open source ecommerce scripts in minutes. But if you want to make it from scratch you need an extensive knowledge of the language. When I was learning ruby, I built the e-commerce website like etsy, yelp for study purposes. What I would suggest is if you are going to build a e-commerce website for study purposes its okay but don't use it in production. For production simply go with ready made scripts like wordpress or opencart.
