My business currently has a website that was designed and is controlled by a local web design company, but we are interested in having full editing capabilities so have thought about redesigning the site ourselves with WordPress. We would want the current website to stay live until the new one is ready to put up in its place. First of all, is that possible? We'd be using the same domain name. If it is possible, how would this be done? Is there a way to design a site with Wordpress but have it only viewable on our own server, and then transfer it to godaddy (who is our current host) when we are ready? newseed Posted January 25, 2013 Report Share Posted January 25, 2013 Simply just create a new folder called 'blog' and then install your WP there. Once you are done developing the new site then you can simply move the WP files over to the root. Before doing so, you will need to change the url setting via WP admin under Settings - General to match the root domain. From: http://www.your-domain.com/blog'>http://www.your-domain.com/blog To: http://www.your-domain.com Another note, you will want to turn off the search indexing while in development. I don't know why that would make any difference at all one way or the other - it's just a place to park a work-in-progress. grabenair Posted January 27, 2013 Report Share Posted January 27, 2013 Just a suggestion, If you want a word press site do not use godaddy for hosting. I and all of my friends have had nothing but problems with wordpress on goddaddy. Use somebody else. There is a lot of good documentation out there on this and the wordpress forum is a good place to go and ask which one people use the most. Me and my friends use hostgator and have had no problems.
