  1. SOLVED: Quote Figured it out. Now works fine.
  2. Okay, I've figured out the reason that the quote on the sidebar keeps creeping down: Each of the pages I mentioned (home, about, contact) has increasingly larger amounts of content. The table is being stretched and the quote is centering itself within the cell. Now the question is: How can I get the quote to remain aligned to the top of the cell, regardless of content in the other cells? -Shawn
  3. Hi all, Hoping someone can help me figure this out...I'm creating a hybrid layout (tables & css) and so far am very happy with the results. The problem I'm having is with my sidebar/testimonial portion...I've got it just the way I want it on the home page, tucked up close to the top right of the content section. However, when editing the other pages to reflect this, working on "about", and "contact" pages. the testimonial keeps creeping down the right side of the page!! I've double-checked my code and don't see why this is happening, but perhaps I'm missing something. Here is the link to the page: http://www.analyticlandsurveys.com and the css can be found here: http://www/analyticlandsurveys.com/style.css I have validated the html and css, which helped remove some errors, but nothing that affected the creeping quote. Any help very much appreciated. -Shawn
  4. Just realized that it's gotta be used as a background image. Works fine now, still gotta be resized but that's about it. Also (and perhaps more importantly) using a flat background color contributes to the problem. It now is laid over a tiled background image, which has fixed the problem and actually is an improvement visually. So: 1. Use .pngs as background-images in your CSS vs. in tags, 2. Use some sort of tiled background image vs. a flat color. Very interesting. Thoughts? Have I got this right? -Shawn
  5. Hi, Okay, so I created a logo in AI and have played with exporting it as a .gif or .png to be placed on top of a dark background. Opened by itself in a browser, it looks lovely, just what I want. Opened in the web page, it looks terrible, with weird white edges all around it, and I don't know why. Here is the site: http://www.analyticlandsurveys.com The logo file is currently a .png but looks equally bad as a .gif. Presently the logo is far too big, but I'm just trying to find out why I can never get this to work. I don't want to use a .jpg file for two reasons: 1. I don't want to cause color conflicts with the background image color and the web page color, and 2. I want to know how to properly do this. Should I be using it as a background image? Would this really matter or make a difference? It looks like an anti-aliasing thing, but I don't know how where to adjust this. Any help greatly appreciated. -Shawn
  6. OUTSTANDING!! Thank you thank you thank you. I knew it had to be something small, but I don't know that I ever would have gotten that. Damn, I love this interweb thing. I'm gonna be visiting this site more often in the future. Thanks again, -Shawn P.S. While we're on the subject of IE weirdness, are there any other quirks you would offer advice about/direct me to a page that describes such quirks? I know (kind of) about the box model, but that's about it. Thanks in advance.
  7. Hello, I am creating a small site for a surveying business, using a 12x12px image repeating for the body of the pages. The image will not show up in IE, works in Safari and FireFox. I have googled this problem and found lots of people having the same problem but I cannot find a solution for my particular problem so I am posting here. I have validated the css and html and they're valid. The site can be found here: http://www.jgmachineco.com/web/index.html The css can be found here: http://jgmachineco.com/web/style.css I wasn't sure where to post this, I've worked with web design for several years, so it's not really beginner stuff, but I'm not familiar with resolving conflicts with IE (which I'm guessing is the culprit here). Any help greatly appreciated. -Shawn
