  1. Wondering if this would be better placed in Accessibility. Your choice, your thread. Actually I believe when I have moved posts before they stayed in the original forum as a link to the new forum so it would be available in both. Let me know, and I am making it sticky as it may be worth not having vanish later on.
  2. You may have heard this since CNN picked up on it. Alaska does not have a Lottery, it is not allowed UNLESS the money goes to support a non-profit organization. So we had a Lottery for $500,000 to support organizations for victims of sexual crimes or some such thing. So what are the odds that the sole winner is a 2 time convicted sex offender? Talk about a Ooooops moment. Sex offender wins $500,000 Alaska lottery
  3. Granted Diesel was expensive back in April and cheaper now... but of course it was light then and warmer. Now it is dead winter and dark for all but 6 hours a day. So everyone is using more electricity. By using the grill we cut our electric bill to less than $20 (but only because hot water etc. runs off oil), but I can't grill in the dark in snow to my hips. I know a guy who had a $3,000 electric bill back then. They have not announced if it will be passed on to us, no word yet on the damage. Best part is they have a avalanche crew now who blasts by helecopter to keep the avalanches from being big... they were grounded yesterday by low clouds. Course it still would have been enough to damage it I imagine. I live at the top of the Mendenhall Valley just short of the Glacier. The way we lay, we often get either high winds off the ice filed or wind still and when it is really code like the last 4 weeks where we hit single digets, we suffer from cold inversion and they ban the burning of all wood stoves cause the smoke just hangs like smog head high... and that in winter. Luckily I have a Pellet stove so we are not effected by such bans. So last week we were around 9 degrees in daylight and -10 at night with up to -40 wind chills sometimes. This week it is raining on our 3-4 feet of snow and highs in the 40's! Makes me want to go swiming and sun bathing at the glacier it is so warm out.
  4. CSS is a must, otherwise you will always be behind the curve of other designers and make life hard for yourself maintaining sites. HTML Basics need not be mentioned, without that you can't build web sites except with a WYSIWYG and then you are not really a web designer. Dreamweaver is not a must, but it helps if you want to work for a company. If on your own there are many free tools you can use. Otherwise it depends on what you want to do. Flash is not a must, it has questionable use. It may make a site interesting but it is mostly just eye candy and if used wrong can make sites worthless for people with disabilities. If you want to build more web based applications, then Adobe Flex may be of interest to you. If you plan on working freelance doing peoples web sites, PHP and MySQL are fine. If you plan on working for a company, PHP will be alright but you may want to learn C#.NET or Java and SQL rather than MySQL (Both Database and language) and regardless of MySQL, SQL or Oracle databases you must learn how to correctly design and create databases and database securtity if you are going to do ecommerce type stuff.

    CSS2 compatible

The Acid 2 test does to a degree.
  6. Old members will remember my posts of April 2008 when an Avalanche knocked down multiple towers between us and our Hydro Plant. The city was forced onto Diesel and our power prices shot up 530%? It has happened again, only dead of winter this time. I am taking donations
  7. Hang tight, one of the regulars has done it often. There are IE work arounds and he knows them. Just forgot who it is right off hand. IE7 supports transparent PNGs better and IE 8 should be full support I think. Or pop over to the old forum and do a search for PNG transparencies. He had a few threads talking about it there.
  8. IE is Buggy with PNGs, are they using transparency? We talking IE 6?
  9. Oh the thread is fine, interesting to see what music people listen to... just adding each and every song as you listen to it sort of gets old fast. I forgot 69 eyes and System of a Down.
  10. A CMS would likely be the best way I think. First you would need either the index or a Splash page, here a splash page is OK. The Splash page offers Spanish or English(?) and would be the default page for the CMS. Then you could create to categories or two separate "Sites" within the CMS. Now the link sends you to the Spanish branch or the English branch. Exactly how to do this depends on the CMS you choose. By hand, you would use a switch case with a logic that says, if the ID of the page is Spanish use this content, if English use that content. The CMS version would be easier to maintain and quicker I would think if you are not really experienced with PHP.
  11. As far as the Jobs board, I hadn't noticed, did we drop that? I recall being against it, but a few of the regulars wanted to keep it as they had gotten jobs through it... did I miss the final decision on it?
  12. You speak here as if this was a Beta for the thread. If you have no changes to it, can you copy it into a new thread and I will sticky that before it gets replies if you just want it, I can lock it. We can use this thread for any comments the reguklars may have on improving it. Just let me know when you're ready to go final.
  13. Sounds like a Sticky to me... let one of us... or me know when you are happy with it and we will slap some tar on that bad boy and splat it on the wall.
  14. I suggest we close this thread... aside from Jball upping his posting number with each song (at this rate, he will only take 2 years to catch up to my real number I did in 7 or so...) but I fear someone will post Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers! OMG!!!!! I just did! Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh! But i should add, yea I like to listen to the good music from the 80's like Duran Duran, Cars, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Triumph, Molly Hatchet, Benetar, Pretenders, Joan Jett, Bonny tyler, Meat Loaf (Now and then) and most any group managed by Jim Steinman. Also some Vietnam War CD's I have with 60's-70's Hits. Monkees... Also sound tracks like Man of La Mancha, Dance of the Vampires (Steinman), heartbeat by Don Johson and 80's German (Language) music like Die Aertzte (East Berlin), Die Princen, Falco... a few songs from Nina Hagen and Ramstein, Nina... Also forgot Apcalyptica (Goth/hard Rock headbangers on Chello). Then there is Comedy: Bill Cosby, Engvil, Foxworthy... and some Germans like Mittlemeyer, Mario Bard (West Berlin)...
  15. We had a Pastor there too, but now that I think of it he was Pastor Donny
  16. By the way, you the same Pastor from M$N groups Web Design?
  17. Gotta be quicker Luv... beat ya!
  18. Make a folder that name, then place that .htm file inside it and rename it index.htm. The browser always loos for an index page in every folder, so if you rename it index inside a folder cakked young adults, you will get what you want.
  19. It is a mood thing really. If I am concentrating, Arvel Bird (Contemporary Native American Fiddle and wood Flute), Morgan Fawcett (Alaskan/Tlingit Wood Flute), Vanessa Mai (Electric Violin). Otherwise Within Temptation, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, HIM, Night Wish. Basic Goth. If I am getting upset, Linkin Park, Manowar

    Adult Bailout

OK, but if I see Grizzly Adams, should I send him down?
  21. That is spamming the search engines and they do not like it much. It COULD happen that it makes things worse and hurts the ranking of both sites. You want outside links yes, but those should come from sites not related to the person and best linking to articles etc. written by the person. Respected sites in the same area of interest as his site should link to it. Also fresh content like a blog or at least reasonable fresh content, ie. new pages help.
