  1. Here is an article about doctype choice Really it was nothing particularly wrong with your code( well, if you went through validation) except span tag you've used for headings. So simply use tags for headings and it will come out well. I don't know if you ever went through this tutorial in which you can see how basic layout could (and should) be built and styled. In example of this test layout HTML you can see how tags are used for headings.

    IE7 CSS problem

you can quickly create a test page with your code, upload it to the server and post the link here. This way we can see the problem right away.
  3. CSS book from 2005? isnt it a bit oldy?
  4. I still write IE6 CC with ie6fix.css and at mostl a few extra minutes to fix layout; the rest the users of IE6 could eat as it is or install good browser. The trouble is some people (clients) have no idea what browser is. You wouldn't believe it, but it is true.
  5. you can try Selectorial from the same maxdesign website: Selectorial. It goes with the whole CSS layout creating in the end ("Selectors in action") to clear things up.
  6. well, it is a main problem for any website creator ( or its owner) - how to get ( often any) visitors. You didnt mention what your website is about but anyway a few tips: Good written content is important - if you feel you are not getting any response on it - it does mean some fresh ideas in your content are needed ( you can try to do some research on similar websites on it to see what your competitors are into) Now about how your website is coded - is it written with semantically correct HTML( meaning: is it SEO friendly and accessible?) How you promote your website - is there a link to it in your local phone directories, newspapers, bulletine boards or on your IM as one of your contact information info?; when you post in blogs or in forums (not here!) on your subject, do you give a link to your website as an addition source of information? have you got RSS to which your visitors can subscribe to? You can use YouTube, Flickr, Twitter and other social networking to promote your website ( by the way you can upload your video on You Tube and some other podcast(videocast) networks) There are few more tips I'm sure this list could be continued... For example, check these predictions for 2009 web design, may be you'll find the way to jump into mainstream: http://www.smileycat.com/miaow/archives/001477.php
  7. I add my bit to what is already said. About coding. It seems clean and validate but I didnt notice any of tags in your HTML ( using span class for headings is not semantically correct.). You can read more about semantic coding : http://www.sitepoint.com/article/html-37-steps-perfect-markup/ Semantic coding will boost your SEO and make your website more accessible. ( If it is your first site, make for the future a list of what you need to check your website on: validation, semantics, accessibility - there are plenty online tools to help you in it) For the rest - I'd work some more on a header and footer part and colors but it would be to only my personal taste. Cheers
  8. I'd like to drop testing for IE6 as well but every project needs stats checking first. Good thing IE6 is not at the top of the list anymore.
  9. Wishing everyone the best in a new year.
  10. Similar thread was a while ago in old forum but could be quite useful to have another good list of color tools: http://www.colblindor.com/2008/12/23/15-tools-color-blindness/

  12. testing new forum skin and simply sending best wishes to all coders:
  13. I've found these links so it is settled
  14. Hopefully the most visitors to the forum will be coming here through good browsers - and if not, the should get at least FF if they are into websites building/web design learning.
  15. well I cant edit my own post so anyway, so i agree with signatures - they can go for good. PS And i think you really kind of of missed this image hohoho @falken i will not repeat my post again unless you especially ask for it
  16. May be I've missed it somewhere but i think the link to the main killersite from forum (as links to main killer tutorials) is needed from index page of a forum - may be in a form of extra menu bar?
  17. haven't find signature feature yet ( not if I so concern about it, just curious if it will be there? EDIT [falkencreative]: I'm really sorry Im -- I meant to hit quote, and must have accidentally hit edit instead, and didn't catch it. I'll be more careful next time... I'm still getting used to having mod abilities! Unfortunately I can't undo what I did, so you'll have to edit and add your comments back in. Sorry!
