  1. Without a way to test this on the fly, I'm not sure if my suggestion will work, but this is something that John/shelfimage has helped me with on numerous occasions and this is how he does it.

    Can you try placing the z-index on the #menus li ul and try bumping it way up? I had the same issue on this website (hover over Products) and the way he solved it was to use #menu li ul {z-index: 100;}. Instead of placing it on the li, it's on the child ul.

    I hope this makes sense. These things always challenge me. :/

    ETA: The website I showed you....ugh. Ignore all the image issues. My client takes care of all maintenance and it did NOT look like this when I handed it over. ;)

  2. Personally, I won't develop a website without implementing a CMS anymore. Joomla is a CMS (content management system) as is WordPress, CMS Made Simple, Expression Engine, and others. The #1 reason I use a CMS on every site I develop for my clients is that it gives them the power to edit their content on their own. I don't have time to make small edits and tweaks to the text and images on my clients' websites. Using a CMS allows them to log in and make those changes themselves. When they need help or when they need advanced work done, they contact me, but no longer am I changing words here and there.

    I create the design in Photoshop, slice the images, write the HTML/CSS by hand, and then implement the CMS code. So, I'm still creating the websites from scratch.....then I plug in the CMS and power it up! :)

    And my personal favorite at the moment is WordPress because it's easy to use, search engines loves sites that use it, and there are lots of plugins available for extended functionality.

  3. Seconded. ....
    So in general' date=' when would you recommend CMS vs. Wordpress - or vice versa?[/quote']

    I use WordPress as a CMS all the time. My website is powered by WordPress. I also use CMS Made Simple a lot, too. These days, I'm recommending WordPress more to my clients because of its fantastic SEO properties. If I have a client who needs an extensive catalog, but not necessarily a shopping cart, I sometimes find CMS MS easier to use.

  4. I'm sure there will be various answers depending upon who you ask, but in my mind a brochure style website is one that showcases a company's products and services without a shopping cart. I think of it like an online version of a print brochure. And I think of a catalogue website as one powered by a shopping cart so that visitors can make online purchases.

  5. Eh? "I always paste the content into Notepad prior "

    Explaineth pleath big_smile

    Sorry. :D Prior to pasting the text into the program, I paste it into Notepad first and then copy it from there. This will strip out all the formatting from Word and make it plain text.

  6. I have been busy preparing for a job interview (which was yesterday), so I haven't had a chance to take a close look until now. I remembered the link. :)

    I think it looks good, Eric. I only noticed 2 issues on my end. First, the testimonials container doesn't hold all the text making the last line look cut in half. Second, I realize that to get back to the home page, I can just click Video, but I also found myself wanting to click the logo. Can you make that clickable?

    Good luck with it! Have you thought about ways to advertise?

  7. Okay, I just played with it a little and was able to remove the space.

    #row {

    display:table-row;

    }

    #navigation {

    display: table-cell;

    vertical-align:top;

    width: 200px;

    border: 1px solid red;

    }

    #content {

    display: table-cell;

    vertical-align:top;

    width: 570px;

    background: #639d3b;

    padding: 0 25px;

    border: 1px solid yellow;

    }

    And then I added a new containing div called #row inside the #main div. It works for me in Firefox 3.5.4.

    I got the idea from here:

    http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2008/02/28/table-based-layout-is-the-next-big-thing/

    A longstanding bug in Firefox makes it necessary to add a second containing
    inside the "body"
    and set it to display: table-row. Otherwise, the layout will often break when it initially loads.
