  1. One last thing, with IE8 and Firefox 3, you can now use CSS tables to get this done MUCH, MUCH easier. .. The problem is that IE7 does NOT support CSS tables (they basically work like HTML tables) so we are stuck using the standard CSS methods. Stefan
  2. These days, this is all done via CSS. Just load up a Dreamweaver liquid layout template and look at the CSS code. I'm sure someone around here can go into a some detail about the actual CSS you can use to achieve this . Hint: look to margin settings in your CSS. In the olden-days, we used to create liquid layouts with table width's set to percentages. ... But that is old-school and should be avoided. Stefan
  3. Hi, I will take care of this. Sorry for the delay. Stefan
  4. Hi guys, Did any of you notice my new Javascript video tutorials? Some of you may have seen them in recent Web Designer Magazine issues ... anyway, you can find them here without having to buy a copy of the magazine! I've worked on improving the sound quality with brand new recording equipment ... to compensate for my less than professional speaking ability! ... Ah, nobody is perfect. Let me know what you think. Stefan
  5. Hi, Well we've updated so far: http://www.killerphp.com/store/index.php Our new online store and shopping cart. It now displays videos related to the ones you selected in your cart. http://www.how-to-build-websites.com/ My beginners tutorial on web design. We have also been cleaning up and re-skinning pages within killersites.com, killerphp.com and others. I will soon release a new micro-site: killerjavascript.com ... For my new set of videos on beginners Javascript. They've started appearing in Web Design Magazine last month. CIAO. Stefan
  6. Hi, Between my fast approaching moving date and work, I've haven't had time to hang out here. So, how is everyone? In other news ... As some of you may have noticed, we've been actively updating killersites.com and the satellite sites - we needed the updates I think. So my question to you guys is: 1. what do you think? 2. do you think we are getting too commercial? Thanks, Stefan
  7. Hi, Sorry for the delay. I've used Sphider in the past and it worked well for me. These days though, I just use Google custom search since they take care of all the details for me. ... But, our sites get spidered by the Google bot everyday. Stef
  8. Your question is unclear; are you saying one page is a .asp and another is a .php? Regardless, you should avoid using multiple server-side languages (PHP, Coldfusion, ASP, Ruby etc ..) in the context of one site. We have it here, simply because killersites.com has been around a while and years ago, I was a big fan of Java and so I used JSP pages. Now though, all the new stuff is in PHP. For typical websites, you will see the use of one server-side language along with Javascript for the AJAX stuff. Stef
  9. Sure you can. You don't even need a web design software to do it - check out my basic video on web design. Stefan
  10. Hi, Sorry about the problem. Paypal was having issues with their system and it was not firing off confirmations. I think I manually got everybody last night, but if some reason I missed just email or PM me I will take care of it. Thanks for your patience on this. Stefan
  11. Hi, I've just wrote about how to land a web design job. I figured given the current economic downturn, that a lot of people may be looking to jump into the game. The blog post: http://www.killersites.com/blog/2009/landing-that-web-design-job/ - I also created a short podcast on the subject as well .. for those who prefer to listen: http://www.killersites.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/landing-web-design-job-soft.mp3 Let me know what you think regarding the content, sound quality etc ... Stefan
  12. Hi, I'm not one to promote my videos, but when approaching any web design project, even from the perspective of the client, it makes good sense to at least understand the basics, so that you can have a much better idea what you would need to do to satisfy your business requirements or idea. So in short, you should learn basic web design: http://www.killersites.com/web-design/ Once you understand the basics, you will have moved from being totally blind, to having an understanding of what web design and web sites are all about. For your project, you would be best to use a prefabricated subscription based template/CMS rather than build from scratch. ... At least for most projects. I hope that makes sense. Stefan
  13. Wow, 7000! What can I say, but thanks for being such a great contributor to the community. Stefan
  14. Ouch! I've had people rip off old designs and articles in the past and I am sure the future will see the same. You could try contacting the ISP, but given this is an international website ... I wouldn't hold my breath. Take it as a complement and move on from there. That said, sometimes contacting the jerk might give you results. Stefan
  15. If you're going to go down that road, you should stop eating meat because the greenhouse gases produced by beef is far greater than that of automobiles. Yes, all the cows in the world fart out more global warming gases than all the trucks, cars and jets combined. ... Or so I've read. - Personally, I don't drive a car and use my bike instead. For that reason alone, I should have so many carbon points saved up ... that I should have a card/license that allows me to litter anywhere I like! Stefan
  16. Hi, It could be the hops, but to be honest, we've been getting a lot of traffic and even our dedicated servers are moving really slow. I will have to look into this ... again. Thanks for letting me know. Stefan
  17. Update: I've outlined the course on paper and I'm actually starting to produce my Javascript videos tomorrow. The videos will be targeted at total beginners to programming and should be out in say two weeks. ... I will actually have a few of the videos out sooner, because they are supposed to appear in a soon to be published Web Designer Magazine. I hate it when I give myself deadlines! For all the advanced members who want it ... just PM and I will send you copies. Stefan
  18. No, you are not. ... But you may need to come up with topics of discussion to see any response. Welcome to the forum. Stefan
  19. Is this classic ASP you are talking about or ASP.net? If classic ASP, you can either: just manually set the default value in the HTML (may not be the best approach for nerd reasons .. but it works) or you can use a simple condition when populating the list box to filter for whatever default value you are looking for. ... It all depends on what the criteria is for the default selection. For ASP.net, I think you can just set that in the list box control. It has been many years since I use ASP.net, so my memory is weak on that one. Stefan
  20. I use awstats and Google analytics (formally Urchin) and that's good for me. Stefan
  21. Poor porn guys. Funny thing is, at least they make their money in an honest way ... unlike the mortgage and banking industry has over the last 10 years!! Stefan
