After holding off for a long, long time. I am going to be creating a premium entrepreneurs forum, accessible via monthly subscription. People have been asking for this for a while ... so I am finally getting this going. 

It will include the core course, Business Battle Plan, in both video and mp3 format. I will also be adding new lessons, commentary videos and business podcasts over time.

The idea is to create a business mentoring forum, where people will access my best content, and members will be able to ask questions. Finally, I will be creating content based on member feedback.

So I have yet to apply a skin and tweak the settings. But, the new software is in place. 

I just applied SSL to the forum (and all of Killersites) because starting in October, Chrome will be displaying warning messages to users who visit unsecured sites that contain form fields. 

Anyway, it took me a little while to update everything, but we are secured.

After a year or so, I am reopening the forum because people have been asking and I think the new forum software (the upgrade) might solve our previous problem of massive spamming.

We some sadness, I have to report that after nearly 14 years (on this app and two others before it), the KillerSites' forums are, for all practical purposes , no more.

.... For any who have visited in the last year or so, this is probably very obvious.

There are many reasons for it, but it doesn't really matter. My focus is elsewhere and I think there are other more direct ways to serve the purpose of the forum.

I will keep it online for archival purposes and for members who occasionally want to keep in touch.

It was fun.

About the book:

It's a beginners book designed to give readers a good overview of modern day web design - very code centric thought. But I do cover everything from basic languages:

• HTML
• CSS
• JavaScript

And then I get into practical things like layouts, forms and building tables. I cover the basics of the 4 layout types:

1. fixed width
2. fluid
3. adaptive
4. responsive

I also introduce several new HTML5 and CSS3 capabilities along with a brief overview of jQuery and Bootstrap. I believe these days, the hard part is understanding the basics, and getting a good overview of all that's out there ... and how it fits together. My book does this.

First, happy holidays to everyone! 

I've been even more incognito lately due to work on Studioweb and my new book. The process of writing a book involves a lot of back and forth between myself and the editor, the layout artist and the technical editor. It takes a long time! 

Besides that, I've been working with Ben on a new look for the sites (modern responsive layouts), and I am happy to say that we are just about done there as well.

I just launched our new video subscription site: webmentor.org. 

It is ready to go but I am sure with member feedback, there will be updates and upgrades. Some of the bullet points:

• We are using resizable HD video - for all the new videos. 
• We have video playback speeds - listen at your own speed!
• Our new videos are captured at ultra high resolution for maximum clarity.
• We now date-order our videos ... this way you can more easily distinguish the new from the old. Although we are not including any outdated videos. 
• We launched with several new standalone video lessons and you can expect brand new courses very soon. 
• The videos you watch are now bookmarked for you - so you know where you are.

After 3 years on the old box, we finally moved to a new server. We went from 4 cores to 8.

.. Still chasing a few issues.

To make our server compatible with the Laravel PHP framework, we just upgraded to PHP 5.4 and Apache 2.4.9.

... You may notice the forum running much faster now.

The forum is in need of some attention ... so, we are going to start out with a badly needed upgrade to the core software. This should help a lot with two things:

1. The ease of use to join and post
   
2. Reduce spam
   

.. But we will loose our KillerSites skin for a little bit.

After many years of general neglect, we are finally cleaning house here on the forum.

Yes the moderators have been crazy cool handling the spammers ... but I am talking about the core, the guts of the forum software.  An upgrade and house cleaning was badly needed. So the first step has been to clean up the database ... so far over 40 000 spam and dead accounts have been deleted. 

Soon, we hope to make it easier for new people to join given the new anti spam tools that are now in place.

For those of you that noticed, the server was down for about 15 minutes due to a surge in traffic ... it happens once a year or so.

We may have lost data on the forum ... I had to do a restore from a remote backup. That said, we are upgrading servers very soon.
