Hello there, I bought and started the complete web programmer course recently and after going through basic PHP videos and basic MySQL with ease I suddenly felt it gave a huge jump when the PHP CRUD videos started, as if the person on the video is skipping a lot of terms, commands, operators that weren't mentioned at all during the first two. Has anybody had the same experience? I was doing just fine and then suddenly I feel he is just typing in code and not explaining some things that weren't mentioned, and I'm getting frustrated because updating and then showing a list of records is what I need to learn for my personal project.

Related to this comes this topic question: Am I following the correct order or is there any course missing in the middle?

The course order .txt goes like:

1. PHP Basic - 274min

   2. PHP Misc. - 141min

   3. PHP and MySQL Basics - 105min

   4. PHP CRUD + Pagenation - 90min

And the downloads zips/folders do not contain any "PHP Misc" that I could find. It is really confusing and I'm wondering if maybe I'm having trouble because I am missing those files. I am sure I downloaded all of the ones on the download page. Hope somebody can give me any pointers on either the difficulty jump or if I am indeed missing files.

I attach the finder image with the .txt and all the folders I got from the site, which I had to order and name myself because they were all mixed up. :c

Thanks in advance!

So, I'm contemplating spending the money for the 3 month or the 1 year subscription to Killersites Uniersity, but I wanted to ask a few questions to people that have used it or to the creator of the videos.

My knowledge on coding is around the intermediate level I'd say. I've got good HTML knowledge but I'm still trying to fully master CSS knowledge as there's a lot more to take in than HTML, but I can manage when it comes to coding a site in html/css and deciphering code. I've completed all the courses on Code Academy and I've tried learning using W3Schools but I learn best when it's interactive learning that comes with hands on projects and W3 kinda reads more like a book than interactive work.

What I want to know is..

Will the sites courses give me detailed info on hand coding or is everything taught in Dreamweaver? ..I have Dreamweaver, but I'm told that I should learn hand coding before heading into dreamweaver.

Has anyone started from beginners/intermediate level coding and progressed because of this class? If so, please post up your story.

Will these courses show me how to code AND design or are they mainly focused on coding?

Any and all feedback is appreciated. If you've purchased the subscription package and feel it wasn't worth it, please post why. If you feel it was worth it, please post why as well. Greatly appreciate anyone that replies, thanks!

Hi,

The courses and instruction are great!

This is a minor complaint that a little tweaking can fix.

Perhaps this thread can be used for similar tweaks needed with other courses.

The problem is that on occassion, a correct answer is given, but the validation

process does not accept the answer as correct.

The correction is to update the validation for those answers.

Two examples:

In the HTML5 CSS3 and JQuery course, an answer to update the HTML tags to HTML5

was considered incorrect. In comparing the given answer (obtained after "giving up")

to the one I had, the only difference was this meta tag:

<meta charset=utf-8> vs. <meta charset=UTF-8>

Clearly, both are correct, but submitting the "wrong" case yielded an error.

In the same course, in the Intro to CSS3, video 2 Intro to Crossbrowser Compatability,

Question 2, we are asked to "Add the html5shiv script for older versions of IE"

The website is given, so one just has to copy/paste. Well, the code has changed since

the course was written, so the new code is marked wrong. Asking for the answer so that

one could paste in the former answer and move on was not helpful-- it referred to the

same site.

In creating new course content, it may be wise to not ask a question that has an

answer that is likely to change, such as a script on another site. It might also

be a good idea to check validation scripts so that correct answers are not deemed

incorrect.

Aside from these minor flaws, the teaching and flow of the Killersites University

courses are excellent and a pleasurable way to learn.

Hi guys, I have an issue that I'm coming up with on the content management system setup, I have built out a pretty decent (I think anyways lol) cms from this setup, & have found an issue that is kinda baffling me... I know why, but not sure what to do about fixing it....

if I type

"info   hello <h1 id="bummer">"

in a wysiwyg, or a textbox (maybe even a oneline, not sure) I will get in a print_r($_POST)

Array

(

    [uri] => ticketing

    [block] => content_maincontent

    [field] => info

    [nbsp;_hello_ "bummer">

)

I know it has to do with the javascript that builds the datastring, but how to resolve this issue?

var dataString = 'uri=' + uri + '&block=' + block + '&field=' + content;

thanks! Scott

Hi,

Well we are about to start a new round of video tutorial creation and I was wondering if you all had any suggestions?

Ben just finished the Building a CMS series and we have a CSS list and Navigation video coming out this week or next that does NOT use Dreamweaver.

Some ideas:

I am putting together a series on SEO that I should start recording this week. So far, I have 41 parts written up.

I am now considering the following:

- Beginners Illustrator.

- iPad and iPhone development for web designers.

- More wordpress based courses - say on plug-in creation?

Any suggestions anyone?

Hi guys,

I'm trying hard to follow on here but have no clue how we get from downloading wordpress to having it installed.

On The Setting up Wordpress Part 1 video, we seem to jump from downloading WP (at 38 seconds)to it magically being installed. By 1.00 the instructor goes on to talk about the installed structure. ??? I didn't see anything get installed. One minute we were downloading then next he was deleting double wordpress files and renaming one.

Its then mentioned something about extracted all the files onto his file system. Whats a file system? A hard drive folder where we should instal too? How do we instal??

At 1:39 we are told "Now that we have Wordpress installed" (Downloaded yes, but not installed) and then we go onto MAMP.

Could anyone go over this please.

Hi guys,

This is probably a newbie question, but I couldn't find it on Google, so I'll try here. I've been watching lots of tutorials here lately and many times I see the person of the tutorial select some text in their text editor, and then move it with tab. So I want to do that too, cuz it would speed up my workflow a lot. I just can't figure it out. It's not command-tab, or command-shift tab, or all the other buttons.

Can someone please help me out?

I am using mac os x lion with BBEdit.

I hesitated posting this because most of my errors are stupid mistakes on my end. however, I'm doing the shopping cart video series and I'm stuck at the very end of video 8.
Good afternoon all,

Today I saw a job opening for a front end web developer and I know I am not skilled enough yet to apply. That said do you think it possible to create spec assignments to complete that would be practical exercises and help our portfolio? Something that required HTML, css, javascript,php, maybe a little photoshop, and whatever else in your minds eye would say this is a viable candidate for entry level web design? Or whatever criteria you can count on your fingers, you need to be able to do this, this, this. And if you can do this, it proves you know enough to seek employment. Thoughts
