On Google Results Page, Do You Prefer The Links To Open In New Tabs Or In The Same Tab ?

Actually I like the link I have clicked to open in a new tab, not in the same tab, especially when I’m not sure where I want to go in face of lots of results on SERP.

But Google and Bing open links in new tabs by default. Do most people behave unlike me ? Or they are used to Ctrl-Clicking and Right-Clicking ?

Which one do you prefer ? Any thoughts please. I think this would be useful for us.

I scanned through the accessibility archives, but didn't really see what I'm looking for. If I missed it, could someone point me to the right place? Anyway, I am looking for a checklist of basics that I should include in a site that needs to be accessible. I'm working on a site for a UK charity organization and it's a requirement of theirs. I know I could do some reading and research, but that will take a bit and I'm really pressed for time. So, is there a checklist floating around out there that you guys know about? :cool:

I am currently on a project where I am testing the accessibility of the website being developed by my team. What do you think are the most important browsers that I need to keep in mind while testing their functionality and design because I find it a bit difficult to test each one in each browsers and I find other browsers to be boring because they load too slow...

Title for anchor tags

I've seen several topics about whether to use the title="..." in anchor tags and people have different views.

If I exclude the title like this:-

Contents

I presume that a screen reader for a blind person will read out "Contents", is that correct?

If I include title like this:-

Contents

all browsers show a tooltip which I find ugly, but does a screen reader read out both "Contents" and "Main contents of this website"? How can I include extra information for a disabled person without showing the ugly tooltip?

Is the best way to avoid using title but to increase the description between the and tags? That is also ugly because you get more words with the hover style which may be a different color and underlined.

There was a discussion here http://forums.site-reference.com/topic/8601/How-much-Weight-does-title-anchor-carries/ where people couldn't make up their minds whether it is a good idea to have the title or not and some were thinking of SEO while others were thinking of accessibility.

As most of you know I am technically Autistic, ADHD and Depressive... so would that make me a "Mental Defective?" I really hate this "Politically Correct" movement... but this seems just one step left of "Don't apply if your a retard."

I had to read that one twice to be sure someone actually wrote it that way. That said, maybe that is some acceptable terminology I have just never heard before.

Major Sites Major Errors with WC3

I thought these sites would pull all the stops for WC3. That was a joke so heres what I found in indexs.

AOL www.aol.com Index - 421 Errors and wow 297 warnings - Written in XHTML.

Ebay is still in HTML with 214 errors.

CNN still in HTML and has 85 errors and 27 warnings.

Fox is in XHTML and has 63 errors and 18 warnings.

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAH ----- www.microsoft.com is still emulating IE 7 because it messes up in 8 and 9 looks like.... TOOO funny.

Microsoft is in XHTML and has 104 errors and 31 warnings.

Google's comes in with 40 errors and 2 warnings.

Bing is in XHTML and comes in with 12 errors on its 23 line index.

Yahoo is still HTML with 1000 plus lines on index and comes in with 166 errors and 33 warnings.

Add to the list folks if you want. I will try and build it more over time.

Major Bank Chase written in HTML comes in with 119 Errors and 51 Warnings.

You Tube Written in HTML but weird in the fact it just put this at Doctype nothing else. Huge Spaces in its lines with nothing must slow it down.... Lets see 154 Errors and 4 warnings.

Facebook is written in XHTML and comes in with 11 errors.

Problem with IE9 beta take it back to IE8

I had a major problem with IE9 beta as you know with two of my sites. It rejected the cufon.js for some reason and I am pushing them to fix it for the IE9 release.

SOOOO What to do to keep your site viewed on IE9 but you want it to be compatible with IE8.

Alaska sled dog overcomes missing leg

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — A young husky named Abner iscompeting in sled dog races just months after losing his rear left leg.

Abner lost the leg in October when he impaled it on a stake in Two Rivers.

Some race organizers have declined to let Abner compete, figuring there's noway a three-legged dog can beat a four-legged one.

But musher Lynn Orbison has been able to enter him three times, and Abner evenwon money in this month's Jeff Studdert Passenger Race in Fairbanks.

Orbison has appealed to the International Sled Dog Racing Association to let handicapped dogs race everywhere.

I mean really, if the Vet says he can run, if the Musher is willing to take him, who are the judges to decide if a dog is "Fast enough"? Go for it Abner!

The new 'community' design

Since there doesn't seem to be any other place to comment about this forum's design, this seemed the most appropriate topic. Apologies if there is some better place for it!

The new 'community' design' is much harder for me to use than the previous 'forum' design. Specifically, the very large buttons and headers, plus the large 'blank margins' either side, make the content rather 'squished up' on my screen here, and some pages (like the Calendar) don't really work at all, with the big buttons at the top over about three 'lines' and the last/previous months' calendars overlaying the current month's.

Would it be possible to reduce the size of the page margins, sidebar menu, and button controls so that the site would fit properly into my browser 'real estate' here? Because of my eyesight and monitor size, I can't run any more than 1280×1024 pixels, and this new site seems to have been designed for screens much larger than that.

Thanks in advance for any comments from the admins.

PS: Also, the 'shadowed' text in the 'crumb trail' at the top is very difficult to read, and makes my eyes 'swim.'

I need to know what type of search query this is, will it work on my website? Must I have a database in order to use something like this.
