I assume you have a Youtube account.<\/p>\n

There are pro\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and con\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s to using Youtube as your means of adding video to your web site:<\/p>\n

Pro\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s:<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Easy to do, since Youtube provides all the tools you need to embed the video.
\n– You don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have to pay for the video bandwidth.<\/p>\n

Con\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s:<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Videos are public \u00e2\u20ac\u201c if you want to embed.
\n– Youtube branding on your videos. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Video Formats<\/strong><\/p>\n

YouTube accepts videos uploaded in most formats, including .WMV, .AVI, .MKV, .MOV, MPEG, .MP4, DivX, .FLV, and .OGG. It also supports 3GP, allowing videos to be uploaded directly from a mobile phone.<\/p>\n

Nerd\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Choice:<\/strong> You should go for MP4 with H.264 encoding.<\/p>\n

Programs that output H.264 video<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are many programs that will produce or convert videos into H.264 <\/p>\n

QuickTime 7 Pro ($29.99)
\niMovie (Mac only)<\/p>\n

More expensive video software ($300+):<\/p>\n

Adobe Flash
\nAdobe Premiere
\nApple Final Cut Pro Express (Mac only)<\/p>\n

Note: Windows Movie Maker at this time only outputs WMV.<\/p>\n

Nerd\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Choice: <\/strong> I would get QuickTime 7 Pro if you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have a professional editing package like Final Cut. If you are on a Mac, you can use iMovie.<\/p>\n

Video Dimensions for Youtube<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can with just about any dimensions but Youtube will crop most sizes. These two video sizes Youtube does not alter:<\/p>\n

– 1280 x 720 (16×9 HD)
\n– 640 x 360 (16×9)
\n– 640 x 480 (4:3 SD)<\/p>\n
