After thinking it was my hard drive about to fail, it turned out to be the motherboard, great. At least my hard drive is OK and installed into it's own box to be connected to this PC which finally got connected to the internet yesterday. I originally installed Apache, Php MySql and phpmyadmin all seperately. I followed the instructions from David Powers along with his book PHP for Dreamweaver 8. Question is do I have to go through it all again (not installed Dreamweaver yet) or is there an easier way to go about it. I seem to remember it took an awful long time to get things running, so easy to make typos etc. Basically I need it to work with Dreamweaver, I had also installed Joomla, but now wonder if CMSMS is the better way to go. All help, ideas and tips gratefully received. |

Install WAMP (http://www.wampserver.com/en/) -- it will install Apache, PHP, MySQL and PHPMyAdmin automatically, and is really easy to get working. I don't have experience working with Joomla, but I've found CMSMS really easy to work with, and simple to learn. My clients like it because the admin interface is straight-forward. ---------------------------------------- Benjamin Falk | student : designer : developer Twitter: falkencreative |

Download it again? Are you sure you waited until the full file downloaded before you tried to install it? It has always worked fine for me, and is well known to be a good option. Will try again, and get back tomorrow, getting late now. Thanks. Will also try and install Dreamweaver, it wouldn't run on my OHs computer, which also is XP Pro, so have fingers crossed. |

Re installed, nothing. When I try local host, not found. If I test port 80, it suggests that it might be being used by Skype, so how do I change it? |

I changed the listen port to 8080 and that works, still to get the MySql running so I can start to learn that. Dreamweaver installed and running OK, need to drag all the old files from the old hard drive over and then connect the DW to the Wamp. Such fun, not. |

Removed Skype and did a fresh install of Wamp. The local host page works, but I get an error when trying to access phpmyadmin. Error MySQL said: Documentation #2003 - Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) I know this stuff is all free, but there seems to be little help out there if things don't work properly. All I see is messages that say, well mine works. Somewhere I am missing something but don't know what. |

Looks like I am talking to myself here!!!!! Finally got it sorted. I installed the previous version of MySql, think the latest version has a few problems, even though I did several downloads on different mirrors. All connected to Dw8 and my Skype has been re installed as there were conflicts there. Have a great day everyone. ![]() |
