Re: Who needs a CMSMS module built?

Just got another idea --- a click-thru heatmap. There are sites out there now that do this - for a fee. They also use javascript to link out to external websites, which I think is a bad idea, and just asking for a XSS attack.

Example of commercial heatmap service

I can use a file on the server to hold the per-page data, and build the heatmap on the fly using PHP's GD image library. No talking to external servers is necessary.

If this works as well as I'm invisioning it, I might have to make it available for pay - free to KS members, of course.

That is a killer idea. Let me know how I can help! I still like the G Analytics thing too - if you don't go with it, let me know and I'll pick it up. thanks!

Re: Who needs a CMSMS module built?

I have a suggestion.

How about a 'people listing page'. It would be nice to have this for all kinds of organizations. Similar to a 'Company Directory' page, but a user could not only have 'custom fields', but 'tags' or 'categories' and allow people to be 'weighted'.

For example.

Bob Smith, VP,
Harry Smith, Pres
Jimmy Smith, Peon

You could tag people 'Presidents' (user defined category) and have them listed on a page, and if someone was the President, a weight would list at the top of a page. Peon's or Graduates or whatever would show up on separate pages if you wanted them to.

I think this wouldn't be terrible, but some might find it useful. (Including the coding challenged).

If the client was big enough to need that, you're not going to want to enter all that info by hand, or keep it up-to-date. They should have either an MS Active Directory or an OpenLDAP server with that information. For that, you would need to custom-code a solution to access it, because LDAP servers don't have a standard method of storing information.

Re: Who needs a CMSMS module built?

Actually if you were using it for any academic department, there wouldn't be that much updating needed. Initial entry would suck, but if you are looking at 45 people total, with a change of say 8, the updating wouldn't be that bad.

My thoughts are more towards trying to setup CMSMS so admin aides can easily update site information without the ability to screw much up (formatting etc.)

Still, why not use the University's LDAP server and eliminate the update entirely?
