As you probably already know IE8 Beta will not display animated gif's properly, no animation...is there a fix for this yet? And this is kind of a bummer, IE8 no longer supports this meta tag: <META HTTP-EQUIV="Page-Enter" CONTENT="BlendTrans(Duration=3.0)"> I like to use this simple effect sometimes, can't anymore... ![]() But it still works with ie6 and ie7, and its a cool effect if you want to try it. It fades your pages while they load from one to another... ---------------------------------------- Happy coding to you :) ---------------------------------------- [Edit 3 times, last edit by donnie1 at Jul 28, 2008 1:27:49 AM] |

It will probably work in IE8 when the browser is released to the public! Hold your horses - why develop for something that's in early stages of development? It's continually changing. ---------------------------------------- Pavonis Mons | Listen of the week: "Residue of Desire" by Acumen ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by tpattison at Jul 28, 2008 1:43:38 PM] |

Chances are it will end up looking good via IE7 and in rare cases IE6 might need a conditional comment or two. Designing for IE8 beta is a waste of time because it's just that...a beta which means there are still bugs, issues, problems or whatever that need to be fixed. I would bet IE8 would support animated gifs after it's initial release to the public but animated gifs is old, not profressional and in some cases too bulkly in file size. ---------------------------------------- Success is based on how much you spend. I design my sites using FF and then go back and work out the bugs in IE back to IE6, I thought that is what everyone did... The customer wants to see it working properly in IE8 now so I have to at least do what I can within reason, I know that MS can't put out a browser that won't display gif's properly, that of course is ridiculous... but the customer is always right, I hope you have learned that, or you will be wondering why no work is coming your way soon, sorry I don't mean to preach, but it is true... ![]() ---------------------------------------- Happy coding to you :) |

Don't design for IE8 Beta because it will change and you will then have to fix it later. Nevertheless, IE8 will have the capability to render website pages to previous version of IE (IE7 and IE6) and to make this work is that you add a small meta tag to the header of your web pages which that IE8 will read and whatever version of IE you have listed in that tag IE8 render it for that version. I disagree, the customer should always be made happy where possible, but they are not always right. You need to explain what a Beta is, that the current Beta release is for developers to test and point out problems and changes that need to be made. I had not heard that animated gif's do not work in IE8, but I would think it is temporary because we all know these private web sites out there love blinky bouncy things. Explain to the user that this is just a test version of IE 8 and that the final will be much different and to make the site work for IE 8 now is a waste of time and effort on your part and therefore their money. If they want to pay you now to make it work for a purely theoretical browser, fine. But they will have to pay you more later to make it work in the final version. Otherwise let you do your job and finish the site for today's browsers. In theory, IE8 should pretty well show what Firefox does. In the end as mentioned, with version targeting things will change anyways. I would think it possible to add a conditional comment to say if the browser is IE 6, use the IE6 version meta tag, IE7 use the version IE7 meta tag or some such thing. But till the alpha comes out we know little and the Beta is to find problems they need to fix. Customers need to learn to trust your knowledge, that is why they pay you rather than do it themselves. If not, charge them to make it work now and then charge them to make it work for the final if they want you to waste your time. ---------------------------------------- Gu.aal kwsh yak'i itakw ijeet wugoodk LSW-WebDesign.com |
