I have a past client who is asking if I can set her up with a Wiki. I'm specifically looking at MediaWiki because it powers the Wiki she wants to emulate. My question for you guys is this. If I can handle installing Wordpress blogs (manually) and phpBB, do you think I could handle this? And does anyone have experience installing and customizing Wikis? Is it a matter of editing the HTML and CSS to customize the look or is it more involved. I'm just not sure here.... TIA! |

It's not one of your plug-n-play type of program. There are some configuration/setting that you have to set up before you can add extensions...and OH...the extensions. I can never understand why they didn't add some of them that most people would use in the first. Anyway, you will have to add all the extensions yourself which again will require to edit some of the codes in whatever php file they tell you. Can you do this? Heck yeah! Just go one step at a time. Besides, I think you have enough of a support group here to assist you with any questions you may have. I'm contemplating to install it on my localhost for my personal use (i.e keep all my information, tips, tricks, how-to's, software settings, etc.) ---------------------------------------- Success is based on how much you spend. If it requires editing PHP, I do believe I'll pass on this one. ![]() |

Nuh-uh, you can do it. Like Eddie says, there's lots of support here if you need a hand. Besides how are you ever going to learn PHP if you don't get your hands dirty? And one of the best learning tools I've found is trying to fix thing when I screw up. So go for it! ---------------------------------------- Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur |

You will not have to do more than what the ask. I thought Stef had some kind of wiki or contemplating doing one. Maybe he can advise. ---------------------------------------- Success is based on how much you spend. If it's not money, then the alternative is your time. The Kasper Group |

Yep. You can do this! Same as others - design a template - port it to the wiki. ---------------------------------------- "The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings." -Okakura Kakuzo Save the developers<!> Maine Webworks |
