biggrin CSS and Ebay

Hi all, Can you please update the ebay and css info for me as I want to use css in my auctions.

I may be doing something wrong but I can't seem to get either the inline or externally linked css to format the page. I'm using dreamweaver to design the page.

Best regards lee biggrin

Re: CSS and Ebay

hi shelfimage, ok I have created a page for ebay in dreamweaver and formatted it with some inline css styles but when I uploaded it to ebay the formatting was lost or removed, consequently it looked a bit of a mess. So, I recreated the css styles in a css file and tried to reference the styles from the css file that i uploaded to my webspace but the formatting was still missing. I checked the code to make sure it wasn't referencing the inline code and was pointing to the css file on my webspace. either way it didn't show the css formatting so I have concluded that either ebay is removing it or my code is incorrect.

is ebay removing the css for some reason or am I adding the code to ebay incorrectly?

I use turbolister to create the listing and copy the html from dreamweaver and paste it into the description builder section of turbolister.

Re: CSS and Ebay

If this code is the page you're talking about, then the reason your stylesheet you saved to your webspace is not showing would be that you are not linking to it - there should be a line in your header like this:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://www.yourwebspace.com/yourStylesheet.css">

but even if you had that, then the other style I'm currently looking at in your head section would overrwite anything in your external sheet.

I don't know if ebay is removing code- can you compare your version with theirs?

And, btw, I have no idea what a turbolister is and/or does.

Re: CSS and Ebay

Turbolister is a program that allows you to create ebay auctions offline for uploading later on in the day. or whenever you feel like uploading the auctions.

below is the code from the uploaded auction. It seems to be stripping the css references out of the code.

I'm wondering if this is an issue with how turbolister deals with the code. I will create an auction online via ebays selling wizard and report back.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Re: CSS and Ebay

It is all dependent upon what ebay allows. They may allow some html tags, but not all of them. They may allow some CSS styling or none at all.

Does ebay allow you to upload an actual html page?

Or do they limit it to pasting code into an included online html editor/WYSIWYG form?

If so, then the doctype and everything inside the <head></head> section wil be determined by EBay and won't be overwritten by your code.

Turbolister is using very old depracted code. I'd stay away from it unless the help it provides is something you can not live without.

Basically, you are probably going to be stuck with using inline css styling like,
<div style="margin:10px;border:2px solid #eee;">Content blah blah</div>

Unless Turbolister removes it...

Here are ebay links you might find answers to those specific questions.

Re: CSS and Ebay

I've yet to get CSS to work on eBay or TurboLister. I think John is right...you might have to resort to inline code.

Re: CSS and Ebay

As Susie said, this may not be possible on eBay. A power seller told me that he had tried and failed as well.

Guess you have to use plan B

Peace
