Expression is a new editor for web developement from Microsoft that would seem to possible relace FrontPage. It would seem that it may be something worth keeping and eye on... Microsoft is coming out with a new Windows-only Web design tool called Expression. It?s pretty slick, with features like visually illustrating margins and padding in the design view and what seemed like smart management of styles. Unfortunately, I had a little trouble following what it was doing, mostly because I saw it presented in a talk and didn?t have hands-on time. Basically, Expression seems to be FrontPage done right, with a relentless focus on standards-oriented design principles. It has its own rendering engine for the design view, and the whole thing was built from the ground up, which means it isn?t trapped by legacy rendering concerns, but it made several of us wonder why that isn?t what they use in IE7. - Eric Meyer ---------------------------------------- Gu.aal kwsh yak'i itakw ijeet wugoodk LSW-WebDesign.com ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by LSW at May 15, 2006 12:29:37 PM] |

I know two MCP that have tested the Web Designer portion of Expression and have given it high praises. Unfortunately, there is no public beta to download. Only the Graphic Designer and Interactive Designer has the free trial for download. Expression seems to be a bundled package of all 3 programs. My question is, will they also sell them seperately? I would not be surprised if the Expression package to be priced at about $400-$600 U.S. or higher. yeah I saw that earlier today and tried to be on e of the 1st 5000 - no go. So I downloaded the image editor and will test drive that for 180 days... The public beta release of the web designer product will be another month or tow from what I understand. ---------------------------------------- "The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings." -Okakura Kakuzo Save the developers<!> Maine Webworks |

Seems to be closed now, at this writing that is. Not sure when it was full. The public test version seems to be schedualed for June. ---------------------------------------- Gu.aal kwsh yak'i itakw ijeet wugoodk LSW-WebDesign.com |

Microsoft is good at making big IDE's with drag-and-drop functionality etc. Things like Visual Studio and Visual Basic were impressive for their time and Visual Studio .NET is still a great tool - if you like code automation. But when it comes to text/code editors, they don't typically shine. Stefan ---------------------------------------- Stefan Mischook Video Tutorial Store | Web Templates |

Cheryl D. Wise was at the MIX 06 Conference along with Eric Meyer among others. Cheryl sent me a link to something she did up on Expression. Now this is not the best looking web site on the net, but she was sick when she came back from it and has not had a chance to do it up right. She also posted a video of Expression. It has no audio or cations yet, but you may find it interesting. I was intrigued that she stated in our mailings that she may drop TopStyle for Expressions for doing CSS work. Now I am really intrigued with this... by Expression Web Designer ---------------------------------------- Gu.aal kwsh yak'i itakw ijeet wugoodk LSW-WebDesign.com |
