Can your critisism be more constructive than my wife's?
I'm trying to deveop a site for a rather vague brief.

The client is an actor, and he wanted to have a site that was, "kinda 50s/60s retro kind of thing, it has to look cool and trendy" so with that in mind I decided to go with a retro, worn type look, and after watching an epsiode of CSI Miami, and saw the beautiful reds, oranges and yellows decided that was my palette. It all seemed good, and I was quite happy with the first attempt. Until my wife walked in, said, "that's ugly" and promptly walked out! (the room, not my life!)

anyhow, could you please give me some more constructive critisism than that. If you think it's ugly too, then fine, but help me improve. THe client wants to see a proof this week.

here it is

It's not bad. I rather like it. The only thing I don't care for is the image top center. It just feels smushed together. I'm thinking move the text to the right of the image. It would be cool if you could have an artist sketch your client's image into one of those classic 50s/60s commercial drawings. You know... like on posters... and beer t-shirts...

I personally love retro and plan on doing my LSW that way at some point, just still working on deffining "what makes Retro".

Especially at large resoulutions like my 1280, the site looks very small and the orange over powering and boring.

It does not really seem to fit. Maybe fade it or make it look more retro too.

Otherwise it seems fine to me for a start.

On the side :
Feel free to browse the entire site

Hits me as rather strange as that what web sites are for. Like going to a drive in theater and being told to feel to drive in with your car.

I know, he insists on the copy staying as it is. It's his money, he can put whatever he wants on it I gues. I have tried telling him, but the customer is always right. Alledgedly.

I'm in the process of looking into alternative backgrounds

Thanks for the feedback so far

hi,
i'd rather get rid of these white round corners above header - just leave this white area go right up like it goes down below footer. And i agree with LSW that this orange background could be replaced to some worned color.
Otherwise looks quite retro to me.

Cheers
