Topic: Gimp

Whats your view on gimp. I like its free but if there is something "better" i would like to know becouse i am going to be needing it for gfx requests on site i belong to.

Re: Gimp

The GIMP is very powerful - as powerful as Photoshop, but I find it more awkward to use. The tools are less discoverable and aren't as intuitive. Good if you can get used to it though.

I found the same thing... You can do a lot with it, but it isn't the most user friendly. GIMPshop (a modification of GIMP that adjusts the user interface to be more like Photoshop) is better, but not much. However, it is free, and it will get the job done if you don't have Photoshop.

Re: Gimp

One thing I never seem to find are the controls for the magic-selection-tools and that kind of stuff.  Or does it not exist such thing in the GIMP?

Re: Gimp

try also paint.net (software name,  not url) it's a clone of photoshop, but free.

A description of the selection tools is here:

http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tools-selection.html

I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to when you talk about "magic selection tools" -- that may be photoshop (or another image editing app) specific, and GIMP doesn't have that particular feature.

Re: Gimp

That is the "Magic Wand" icon for selection tools. I seem to recall GIMP having it, but maybe under a different name.

Re: Gimp

"Fuzzy Select Tool"

Top row, looks like a magic Wand.
