Topic: A question about hosting

Hello people

This is more a question about hosting than web design:-

If you buy multiple domain names for one company to cover all options - for example www.companyname.co.uk, www.companyname.com, www.companyname.org, etc - do you have to buy multiple hosting for each domain name or can all the domain names run from one hosting package?

Many thanks,

Rachel

Re: A question about hosting

If you plan to have different content on all the sites, then you'll either need multiple hosting packages, or (more likely) you need to get a host that allows you to run multiple domains from the same hosting package.

If you plan to have one "main" domain (yoursite.com, for example) and then just redirect all the other domains to yoursite.com, you should be able to do that from the same hosting package.

Thank you - particularly for replying at the speed of light!

It's the later I want to do - redirect all the other domains.

Thanks again,

Re: A question about hosting

You can 'Park" the extra domains onto the main account to have the same pages served.
Or use an "Add-on" domain to offer different content for the extra domains. It creates a sub-domain for the other domains which handles the pages from a different folder on the account.
Either way, if your Hosting account allows for Parked/Add-on Domains, then you might be able to get away with a single Hosting account. (assuming the bandwidth is allowed)
