Topic: Company Website Copyright Question

I hope someone can help me understand....



My company has a website that is updated by a web company- not their original design; they inherited it from another company I worked with. On our site it notes copyright to the web company and not to my company.

Now I am in the market for a change to another web company. Since they marked it as their copyright- can I change to another web company without issues?

Side note: Domains are in my name.

If the web company inherited the website from another company and not from your company, then it belongs to them, I imagine.

The only proviso is that if your company paid for the original website design, then look at the original contract as it might be that you bought the copyright despite what the notes say.
